“Very Good Hostel - clean and very secure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

The Belfast International Youth Hostel is a good choice if you're in Belfast and want an inexpensive place to stay. The accommodations were very clean and well-kept if a bit on the "institutional" side. The building is a newer building and security is excellent. The location is pretty good - a short 10 minute walk to central Belfast and there are plenty of restaurants and markets close by for food. I would recommend this to solo travelers - especially women who are more concerned with safety / security. As I remember, there were no foot lockers in the room but one could leave items at the front desk which is "manned" around the clock. Very clean and well maintained. The food in their restaurant was too high but that's my only grouse. Overall, a very good place.

Room Tip: The hostel is quiet but a higher floor should be quieter that a lower floor

“Ordinary”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

We booked a private double room. It overlooked the front street and was very noisy at night. The room was bare and the bed was unusually high - it felt like a hospital bed. Good laundry, well equipped kitchen and attractive dining space, close to Botanic Avenue where there were plenty of restaurants and cafes although the immediate surroundings were grungy. If you don't have to be right in Belfast, we found it better value to stay in a B&B in Bangor.

“We will stay somewhere else next time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

The International Youth Hostel in Belfast Northern Ireland is in a good location. We have summarized many of our thoughts in to Pros & Cons below. When you have to pay for a pad of butter for your toast and £ 2.00 for 20 minutes of WiFi, it starts to feel like you are being nickeled and dimed to death. We will look for another place to stay next time we are in Belfast.

Pros:
* Gated, off street parking.
* Coin operated washers and dryers (2 each).
* Located between downtown and Queen's University.
* There is a cafeteria on site for breakfast and boxed lunches.
* Elevators to take you to the upper floors.
* Front desk staffed 24/7.
* 8 computers available for internet access and WiFi.

Cons:
* The 20 minutes of “free internet” is hardly ever available. Some how, some where, the free time for each computer gets used up.
* Cost for internet/WiFi access was £ 2.00 for 20 minutes. We went to McDonnell's for their free WiFi.
* Rooms located on the front of the building get a LOT of street noise, tell early in the morning. Ask for a room on a quieter side of the building.
* There is a very "urban" or "institutional" feel to the place.
* No breakfast items provided.

Room Tip: Don't get a room in the front of the building. Noisy

Thank you for your comments.
Our basic bed price is low - from £9 a night if you book online - and we make it very clear on booking sites what is included.
Our rates do not include breakfast - but the cafe is open eery morning with a wide range of options.
15 minutes daily free internet is only available on your own device (laptop, iphone etc) - not on the internet kiosks at reception.
Internet is charged at a basic £1 for 20 minutes - or you can buy an hour for £2.
Due to the city centre location some street noise is inevitable I am afraid.
We are sorry you did not enjoy your visit.
