I have spent 5 weeks in the Ivanhoe this year whilst working in Ireland. Initially i stayed in the 'old' rooms, which are at the back of the hotel, the advantage of this is that they are nice and quiet, as the 'new' rooms face the very busy main road. The old rooms are comfortable and very big however let down only slightly by the old fashioned small TV's and slightly dated decorations. The new rooms on the other hand a very nice, well furnished, large flat screen TV's with free-view and very nice, super powerful showers. the new rooms are far nicer than any travel lodge etc, more on a par with ramada hotels etc. The staff are very friendly, and nothing is to much hassle, they even offered to wash my clothes mid stay as i ran out of fresh ones in my second week offering to wash them in the hotels laundry room rather than the expensive off site option - whilst i managed to make do, a very kind offer. The hotel has a restaurant and small bar. The bar is frequented mainly by locals, but again the barman is very friendly, the restaurant is popular with local families, and whilst the menu is more pub grub than posh restaurant the portions are generous and filling, if not a little boring after the 15th night! The only downsides - breakfast was a fry up or nothing, some continental selections would have been nice, and the position is on a very main and busy road out of the town. Its about a 10 minute drive to the city, although a colleague took the bus one afternoon and said that it was very quick and easy, and the stop is right outside the door. If your gonna book here, ask for a new room, put up with the road noise and enjoy staying in a friendly hotel, for not a lot of money.
Room Tip: My room (225) was a little smaller, but i think the quietest, so its recommended. One of the new roo...
