“Helpful and friendly staff”

Hi, my husband and I stayed in the Ivanhoe on Saturday evening, I felt from the first member of staff we met until the last one checked us out, all the staff were excellent, very friendly, helpful and professional. The room, 223 was really clean, very spacious, a very comfortable bed and had a great shower, it also had a lovely plasma TV with free view. It was really quiet and we got a great nights sleep, there was some noise in the morning outside the window, fans maybe, but it wasnt too early or too loud. We ate in the resturant, they were doing a spcial offer for £40pp, you could have bed and breakfast and a steak evening meal with a free bottle of wine. I thought the food was very nice but the most impressive thing for me was the staff. Top marks for service,

“Very friendly staff, comfortable rooms, but a bit out of town.”

I have spent 5 weeks in the Ivanhoe this year whilst working in Ireland. Initially i stayed in the 'old' rooms, which are at the back of the hotel, the advantage of this is that they are nice and quiet, as the 'new' rooms face the very busy main road. The old rooms are comfortable and very big however let down only slightly by the old fashioned small TV's and slightly dated decorations. The new rooms on the other hand a very nice, well furnished, large flat screen TV's with free-view and very nice, super powerful showers. the new rooms are far nicer than any travel lodge etc, more on a par with ramada hotels etc. The staff are very friendly, and nothing is to much hassle, they even offered to wash my clothes mid stay as i ran out of fresh ones in my second week offering to wash them in the hotels laundry room rather than the expensive off site option - whilst i managed to make do, a very kind offer. The hotel has a restaurant and small bar. The bar is frequented mainly by locals, but again the barman is very friendly, the restaurant is popular with local families, and whilst the menu is more pub grub than posh restaurant the portions are generous and filling, if not a little boring after the 15th night! The only downsides - breakfast was a fry up or nothing, some continental selections would have been nice, and the position is on a very main and busy road out of the town. Its about a 10 minute drive to the city, although a colleague took the bus one afternoon and said that it was very quick and easy, and the stop is right outside the door. If your gonna book here, ask for a new room, put up with the road noise and enjoy staying in a friendly hotel, for not a lot of money.

Room Tip: My room (225) was a little smaller, but i think the quietest, so its recommended. One of the new roo...

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your time with us. Due to a function taking place in the hotel the previous evening and not finishing until very late this situation was clearly explained 2 weeks prior to the revelent parties concerned. It is very important to us the the room be in prime condition for each function that takes place in the hotel and therefore a 11 am set up time was explained clearly to the party concerned. I trust this explains the situation to you and we look forward to welcoming you again at the Ivanhoe Inn and Hotel

“disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

very disappointed with stay at this hotel
the staff were not very helpful .e.g. i ask to borrow a pen form a member of staff at reception and was told a blank no. this shocked me as i was only asking to borrow a pen. am sure they had more than one pen.
i enjoyed the evening meal but breakfast left out in the buffet did tend to dry up.
honeymoon room felt just like a any other room in the hotel with nothing special or complimentary in room not even a chocalate on the pillow, very disappointing.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Ivanhoe Inn and Hotel. We have check this situation on CCTV and spoken with the parties concerned. The receptionist on duty has explained that due to a Wedding Guest Book being placed at reception our guests had requested quite a few pens from her. She therefore did not have has many pens at the latter part of her shift than she did when you requested one. At the time that you asked for the pen she was in fact taking a booking and needed her last remaining pens to complete what she was doing. I hope this explains the situation to you and we look forward to welcoming to the Ivanhoe Inn and Hotel soon.
