“Freezing in all aspects of the word!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2010

We booked The Marine as all our usual haunts were booked out for the weekend. We found this B&B online and booked, not having read any reviews about it.

When we arrived the old guy who ran it greeted us and he was really pleasant and i thought that the stay would be fine. However, the rooms were freezing and, despite the owner saying the heating had just been turned on, they never really heated up. My fiancee spent the whole night fully clothed!

In the morning, we found the rather tight car park incredibly difficult to manouevre out of and when i asked one of the ladies working there if she could ask to get a particular car shifted a few feet, she was really unhelpful and unsympathetic. I got the feeling that once my room was paid, she didnt care a jot if i was stuck in the car park or not. So i was left to carefully move my motor out of the tricky situation myself - i was not impressed.

“Very good value and location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

The rooms are spacious, clean and have nice high ceilings. The staff is pretty quiet but friendly enough. I have stayed at B&B's all over Ireland and the breakfast was as good as anywhere else. For the convenience of parking, location, and quality, this is a great place to stay for a no-frills traveler.

A more accomodating host you could not wish for. Clean, tidy and homely surroundings. Value for money and a hearty breakfast to send us on our way. We would happily recommend this to anyone.

“Charming B&B Lovely host and bit of history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2009

This is a lovely house, inside and outside. I stayed in a small room on the top floor just this past weekend. For this smaller room it was only £40/night. Colleagues of mine stayed at Days Hotel and didn't have as nice a rest and breakfast as I had, for double the price.

The owner was lovely, and I enjoyed my chats with him very much, about the history of the house & area. I am surprised to see the few negative reviews here. I feel a bit bad for him now that I read them. He was genuinely warm and friendly when I booked and arrived.

The day/evening I was there, all the other residents seemed placidly pleased and enjoying themselves. This is a beautiful residence- yes it's vintage-style (but I like that). You eat breakfast looking out at the front garden with flowers. It's a great location too.

Had a great time in Belfast for a conference, and looking forward to staying in The Marine House again.

“Charming Host; Beautiful House; Great Breakfast; Perfect Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2009

We were greeted at the door by Nat - a hard working, spry, elderly gentleman. Nat's initial demeanor was formal, but he warmed up quickly and became charming, with a delightful sense of humor. He gave us a brief tour of his nicely decorated, beautiful home with large rooms and 12 foot ceilings. The room that we stayed in was huge, very comfy and well furnished. Nat turned the heat on as he showed us the room and 15 minutes later the temperature was perfect and remained that way our entire stay. We enjoyed 2 quiet days there and were able to catch up on a bit of work since the Marine House had WiFi with a pretty fast connection.

The breakfasts at the Marine House were great - the complete "English breakfast" with eggs to order, bacon, large sausages, tomato, toast, assorted jams and jellies, butter, assorted cereals, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, milk, orange juice and more.

The Marine House is in a great location with easy parking, in a quiet neighborhood very near the university.
