“A bad joke - Avoid at all costs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2008

The first thing that hits you about this place is the smell - best described as a a combination of stale chip fat and damp. Then there is a nerve jangling ride in a lift that seems to move slowly and only when it wants to. Our rooms had been booked without Tripadvisor review - big mistake. We had 3 rooms each opf which had no working card key so the staff would have needed to let us in on each occassion. The cutains had fallen off the tracks and in any event not big enough to cover the windows- the rooms had a cold eerie feel. The staff were pleasant enough but couldn't make up for the over all rock bottom feel, it may have potential but boy it needs help, a dark scary place! We booked out and found somewhere, anywhere better!

arrived early to be told room was not ready until 2pm, we accepted that as knew that was going to happen. Went back at 2pm, we had to pay for the room before we got the key. The receptionist came and showed us the where breakfast was served, the floor was covered in food and was very dirty. he took us in to the lift which was not the cleanest either. we went into the room to find the curtains hanging by a thread, mould growing up the wall from ceiling ?damp. the bed sheets were dirty there was brown stains on the valance sheet, bathroom was mouldy and dirty too. we got the manager up, he didnt have much to say for himself and when we asked for our money back he done it.

“Worst place I have ever stayed!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2007

PLEASE dont make the same mistake I did... DO NOT STAY AT RENSHAWS!!

When first entering the room, it was outdated, shabby and had too many stains on the carpet that I care to mention..

The bathroom had a strong smell of urine (how nice) and then our roof began to leak! Staff were helpful and quickly we moved rooms, However there was no key to the room so we needed a member of staff to let us in whenever we left the hotel!

This room was a little better, although still extremely dingy but seemed a little cleaner. And we were offered some complimentary drinks at the bar for our inconvenience. We didnt have a problem with noise because we actually went out until quite late.

The next morning, to say we were disappointed with the breakfast is a bit of an understatement especially as my boyfriend had been fantasising about it from the night before bless him.... a box of cornflakes and some bread (toaster was broken) didn't really hit the spot..

Will never ever be back to renshaws again..for the same money you can do ALOT better elsewhere!

“'avoid this place no matter what'”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2007

I ended up getting booked in here by my work cause everywhere else in belfast centre was booked up. Words cant really explain this place but it was the worst place i've ever stayed. On arriving I was greated by the stale musty beer stench that floats round the whole building. The place has a sort of student bar on the ground floor which is ok looking but the floor was sticky and it was empty. The rooms were decorated in a sort of 70s style that would have been ok if the room was clean. Summary of the room: Carpet dusty with bits of food on it that hadnt been hoovered up properly, stains on the walls, paint peeling off the wall, sheet on bed was ripped at side and I could see the matress through the 2 small holes in it, TV not working properly. Bathroom very unclean, bad damp cloth smell in it, black fungus growing in the corner of it, shower head was dirty and a health hazzard. Sorry but this is a very poor excuse for a hotel. On a plus side we didnt have any noise and the staff were plesant. My advice if your thinking of staying, don't even think about it find somewhere else. Check out the photos

“hen weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2007

we booked this hotel through asiarooms for a hen weekend and after reading the reviews we were very wary about this hotel - no worries, the rooms were clean and large and worth ten times more than would you expect for £24 (what we paid) a night b and b. in fact we would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in belfast. the weekend we stayed, the bar was shut (due to staff shortage) and we never heard anything at all (which was probably a good thing). the breakfast is basic (toast, cereal, yogurt etc) but "maggie mays" around the corner does a breafast to die for!!. the hotel is just around the corner from the "golden mile", and we had a great friday night in benedicts. the hotel is a 10 minute (we timed it and it is a straight road down to the city hall) walk to the centre of belfast - no more, no less. a taxi back is no more than £6 -so don't let any bad reviews put you off - book a double room (either room 307 or 308 - massive rooms!!) and have a fantastic time - i would throughly recommend this hotel.
