“More of a boarding rather than guest house”

There was no cozy guest or B&B feeling at Pearlcourt. Rooms were tiny, rundown, shower was either too hot or too cold. Arrived and rather than giving us a welcome it was here are your keys. Bed was worn, room had no window, but heat was cranked up and we had to ask for it to be turned down, repeatedly. You don't have controls in your room. It was inexpensive, but it wasn't worth it.

Room Tip: Go around the corner to the Malone Lodge Hotel. It was nice and a good value.

“Extremely good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We arrived here for a mistake, as the hostel where we were actually supposed to be made a mess with our booking and upgraded us to here. Clean guesthouse, warm people and very good continental/englisj breakfast.

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: We were in the double ensuite.

“Cheap and very cheerful. Recommended.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

I read a few of the complaints on here. It really does show that you really can't please everyone. You really do wonder where some people get their expectations from.

My Girlfriend and I stayed in the Pearl court for two nights in September 2011 to see a gig in Belfast and to do some sightseeing. We had booked a double room on-line but were put in a twin room. A little eye rolling but we just pushed the beds together. We were promised the beds would be properly joined the next day and they were. No big deal.

Some said their rooms was dirty but ours was very clean. There was some mildew on the silicone in the shower in the corners but that was it. Nothing a normal human being would complain about. Clean towels, and soap were provided daily.

The breakfast (8am-9.30am) was FANTASTIC. Lots of buffet choice, fresh tea/coffee, Cereals, sweets and cooked eggs on request. A really good slap up feed.

The owner (Mary) is a lovely and friendly person but never seems to be around much in the day. You are issued with your own keys to all doors and if she isn't there when you arrive, keys are left for you in a coded safe (check your email). It was never a problem for us but many would be annoyed if there was no one to greet you to an establishment.

Some complained that the walls are thin and they are. If you are a VERY light sleeper then maybe this could annoy you if you're unlucky enough to have a noisy neighbour. Mary does supply ear plugs on a plate in the foyer though. We were never kept awake. You would have to be unlucky to need the plugs.

I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone who doesn't expect the Hilton for B&B prices. We paid £50 for a double room with a fantastic breakfast. I think that's very good value considering it's central location in a tourist city.

It's 15-20 minute walk from the city centre/golden mile, literally over the road from the Botanic gardens and museum and spitting distance from a couple of great local pubs offering top quality affordable grub.

“really well situated and pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

We very much enjoyed our visit to the Pearl Court on the Malone Rd, Belfast; lovely people, and really well located for Queen's University and the museum. There is a bus stop right outside the door.

“Affordable Haven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

To take the negatives first - yes, it is an old building, and that means lots of stairs and rather feeble water pressure on the upper floors. OTOH, it is characterful, clean, convenient for the University area (and downtown generally) and reasonably priced. The breakfast is fresh and varied and offers more than you might expect from the description 'continental': the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the sitting area downstairs a genuinely nice space with the long view out to the front garden. Any time I needed to be in Belfast for a couple of nights, I would happily stay there again.
