“Bad Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We booked up or the two night break with breakfast each morning and one evening meal.
The room was nice and clean and we were pleased with it.
However, when we went to dinner on the Friday (we were on a set menu) the food was horrific!
I ordered goats cheese tart for my main, when it arrived the tart pastry was not cooked. Also the combination of foods are wrong.
My husbands was equally bad.
We had one glass of wine each and when we went to pay for the wine after the meal there was a couple there being charged £30.00 for two glasses of wine!
There was a mix up between the reception and the resteraunt about the set menu's.
When it was our turn the manager made the same mistake with us!
It was chaos!
Breakfast was reasonable however.
I do not think this hotel can be called a four star if it includes the resteraunt in the rating, however it is a pleasant hotel that i would stay at again but just on a bed and breakfast basis.

Room Tip: Change your room if you have been given one by the doors to the life area. Very noisy most of the n...

“Acceptable enough for the business traveller”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

The Village, Swansea isn't bad. It has an excellent gym and pool. The rooms are standard fayre for a chain hotel and are clean and tidy with everything you need in them. The bar is comfortable. Breakfast was very poor though. A buffet style affair. The food was piled high and badly prepared. At best it was tepid. The poached eggs were trully comedy-rubber ones and inedible.

“Wouldn't Recommend”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed here over the weekend for a quick trip to Wales. We won't be back. Overall the hotel seems to try to do too much - and doesn't really succeed in doing anything well. It could definitely benefit from improved management, especially in the restaurant.

Positives:

1) large, modern and nicely decorated rooms.

2) Starbucks in the lobby

3) Large pool facility

Negatives:

1) despite staying on the 5th floor, on our second night there we were unable to sleep due to the loud music from the function room on the 1st floor! Called reception and was simply told it should be ending in 10 or 15 mins (ie: midnight). I can only imagine how loud it was on the floors below us.

2) waits everywhere - particularly the restaurant where staff were frequently unavailable to seat arriving guests and (with a couple of exceptions) were generally inattentive.

3) restaurant food was extremely poor. The dinner I had one night consisted of lukewarm soup and overcooked mussels. Breakfast was included with our room but it was so unappetizing that there was no value in this.

4) although the hotel is quite new, it's already looking really worn. Reception desk area is especially weathered looking which is not a good first impression.

5) really uncomfortable beds. I could actually feel the coils in the mattress poking me!

6) very chaotic lobby - packed full with chairs, people waiting to get into the fitness centre and the restaurant, and a ping-pong table placed right in front of the tiny lift.

Room Tip: If you are staying here, you don't want to be above the function room - even if you are on one o...

“Great pool, comfortable rooms.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

The hotel offered what we thought was a great deal, £120 per room for 2 nights, bed, breakfast and evening meal on the first night. The rooms were standard for a hotel of this type but clean and not pokey. 5 foot wide double bed, and all perfectly clean. Dinner was 3 course and a choice of about 6 mains. The pool was very large for a hotel pool and very well laid out. Sadly jacuzzi was broken. The hotel is on the edge of the centre of Swansea, rather than right in the heart, but if you don't mind a few minutes walk to shops, museums etc then this is a great place. If you've never been to this area Swansea is only a few minutes drive from the Gower, which is glorious.

“Dull hotel with indifferent staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Have been obliged to stay here a few times with work. Dull hotel with sludge coloured decor and poor lighting. The staff are indifferent at best. I am used to the receptionist explaining how to find my room, but no such help here. In the dark, depressing restaurant, the waitress insisted I could only order from the cheap menu (despite being an business traveller with an expense account). I had to speak to the receptionist and insist she contact my company and before I could order much more than a burger. The breakfast was self service and lukewarm. The pool/jacuzzi/sauna are lovely but don't really make up for the poor service.
