“Good Staff....Though Chef Went Missing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

Arrived early evening after a testing drive up a single track road which had few passing areas. The reception area is not obvious, but our confusion was spotted by the chap working behind the bar, who was welcoming and took payment up front, and led us to our room.

The room itself was rather tired with well used fixtures and fittings. The Bedding was clean and bed perfectly acceptable. The TV was a small LCD type, but the remote wasn't working. We also found we had no hot water, but this was soon remedied when we informed reception, who had forgotten to turn it on from a nearby sub station.

We woke up early as check out is 10 am, and were looking forward to a full Welsh breakfast to set us up for the day. When we entered the breakfast area, we were informed the Chef hadn't turned up, and only cereals and toast were available. The lady in charge was very nice and apologetic, and offered us £5 compensation.

I'd rate this at an average 3 star establishment at best. The owners should be very grateful that they have staff that care about the customers, though maybe looking at getting a reliable breakfast chef would be a wise move.

“A great place to stay on the Gower.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

The accomodation is set in the grounds of a busy golf club and there are about ten rooms or more on a ground level in an L shape with a few rooms above one side.

It was very easy to find and not far from the M4. There is plenty of parking on site.

The rooms are close by to the main building which has a main bar and golf club and various other function rooms including a lovely breakfast room where the breakfast on both mornings was lovely.

There are terrific views of the surrounding areas from the rear of the accomdation. Although there are a lot of golfers and visitors for different functions such as weddings etc, the rooms are in a separate building and offer peace and quiet yet a short walk to the main bar.

All the staff were helpful and friendly and our room was really nice and clean. Cleaners came in each day to take away old towels and give us plenty of new ones and they made the bed. We had plenty of teas, coffees and hot chocolate and biscuits in our room which was more than enough for a couple of days.

The room was very comfortable to stay in and we had plenty of space to hang clothes etc. The room was very clean and the bed was kingsize and very comfy as were the pillows.

We were very happy to have found somewhere so lovely to stay and the location was superb as it is set in a beautiful location with outstanding views of the area and is so near to places of interest like The Mumbles and Rhossilli Bay which are only a short drive away and a must see.

We had a main meal on our second night and the food was superb.

All in all a real gem of a place to stay and we will be going back again to stay aging bringing with us other family members as our stay was so enjoyable.

“Friendly staff but not 4* accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

Stayed with my partner and 4yr old child for two nights. Upon arrival as previoulsy stated by another reviewer was sure where reception was so another patron told me to go to the bar. Barman was friendly but asked me to pay up front for the stay which is somewhat unusual. Stayed in room number 5 which turned out to be set up for people with disabilities. Asked for put-up bed for daughter which was there however very nasty large stain on mattress! When entered room there was a chair in front of the wardrobe which turned out was holding the doors to the very cheap old pine wardrobe shut, oh and there was an old TV on top which was providing the stability as with the doors open the wardrobe was very unstable!
There was mould on the shower curtains and the whole bathroom was shabby and needed some repairs. Forgot to say the door handle came off when we entered the room!
Positives however, the staff are very friendly and helpful which was good really as the one waitress at breakfast was working really hard to serve everyone but that was just on one day the second morning there was no waitress and you had to go into the kitchen and ask the chef for anything you wanted.!
In summary this place needs bringing up to standard, it is nowhere near 4 star accommodation but could be with some expenditure. The wardrobe and mattress situation needs sorting urgently. I have e mailed my concerns to the hotel and upon a reply will also inform Visit Wales who apparently gave them the 4 star rating.

Oh and the road up to it is not for the faint hearted.

“what a shambles”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2010

If you are thinking of going here on an accomodation basis only - dont bother.
The service when I went was terrible, a very poor breakfast complete with very poor service. When I asked for low fat spread instead of butter I was given cooking fat (Stork or something equally cheap). No hospitality tray replenished. Rooms small and bathroom dated. To top it all I was telephoned an hour after I had left telling me I hadnt paid my bill ! Which I had settled on arrival. I wrote to them telling them of my experience and all they could say was they had a poor service when they stayed in a 5 star hotel and what did I expect ? I expected a bit more than a 25 pound voucher which has to be spent with them which is what they offered me. No way would I go back there.

“Summary - Awful service in a wonderful location, definitely not recommended..... please read on.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

Recently had the misfortune to book the club for the reception of my sons christening. We arrived slightly early (about 10 minutes) and were ushered to a side bar, which later surprised us as this turned out to be the actual function room!! Not enough room for guests to sit down even though we had deliberately over estimated our guest list. Asked as to when we would like the food put out we said 'As soon as possible please'. It arrived shortly after and filled approx half the table that was left for this purpose. Three people asked if that was all the food, three staff members said 'Yes'. Like a few other parents, I popped outside for a very short period to keep the 'little ones' happy. When we got back all the 'edible' food had gone. Nobody had taken stupidly stacked plates nor had seconds. Simply not enough food to go around. When I asked our guests they said that the sandwiches were stale and most of the other food faired no better. 'Cheap tasting' as a family member stated. Although not impressed we paid.

The following day we realised that the menu we had been previously sent contained more food than what we had at the actual buffet. We phoned and complained. The club phoned back and basically blamed us for turning up late!!!! WE ARRIVED SLIGHTLY EARLY!! Then there was another excuse - as they had two functions on the chef was unable to make all the food that we should have had (I don't think Gordon Ramsay has much to worry about here!!), that is a pathetic and why could they not communicate any of this to us at the time (especially as we repeatedly asked if all the food was out??) We did receive a partial refund (after some haggling) but I was left very disappointed but extremely sure never to book this place again!!

If you want somewhere that is too small with poor service and an even worse quality of food, but has fantastic photo opportunity's - then the Gower Golf Club is probably your best bet in Swansea. Otherwise (which I would recommend) look elsewhere
