“Best lamb shoulder ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Ate at Norton House on 3/1/2012. Wonderful attentive service by a friendly but very efficient waitress. Most of our party of 10 chose the shoulder of lamb and all agreed that it was the best ever. Plenty of it and it just fell off the bone. Fresh vegetables and lovely roast potatoes complimented it. With whitebaut to start and chocolate cheesecake and coffee to finish I had a real treat for a very reasonable £24. Highly recommended.

“Welsh Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

We stayed at Norton House late last year after a terrible day getting lost in the beautiful Wye Valley. This was one of those places that will always be dear to our hearts because of the warm welcome from everyone concerned. The rooms were so comfortable and each night we ate in the restuarant - a step back into another elegant time indeed - were we were looked after by incredibly attentive and friendly staff. The Welsh waiter - i think his name was Garrick? - and the maitre de made us quickly forget the trials of the previous day. Mumbles itself is not the centre of excitement but we took a day trip to Laugharne and visited Dylan Thomas' boathouse - this was again made memorable by the the kindness and attention of the curator of the site who is himself a welsh playwright. As in many other parts of Europe, our experience was enriched by the kindness of strangers

“Dreadful Meal”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

Was persuaded to give this a second try after deciding some years ago that the food was poor. A friend told me that there were new managers so I went along to a Christmas meal. Starter was OK but the main course of goose was so tough that it loosened a large filling which dropped out on the way home! Desert was of miniscule proportions and so my advice is steer clear of the restaurant, it's overpriced and poor.

Didn't stay overnight but there are so many great hotels in and around Swansea I wouldn't risk it.

“Personally, I was disappointed.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

I will point out first of all that this review is based solely on the Restaurant, and the the lady who was in charge of it apologised because they were under-staffed.

I will start off with the positives. The place is very pleasant with lovely architecture and views. However, on our arrival, there was nobody on the reception to show us where the restaurant was and when we wondered to the bar, we had to wait over 5 mintues for anyone to even show up at the bar.

Once we were sitted, the wrong menus were presented to us (they have a lunch menu that ends at 6:30, we arrived past 7pm). In saying that, once we did order the food arrived quickly and was nicely presented. I had the cream of Vegetable soup for starters which was delicious, and the chicken for mains which was also very well cooked and tasty.

My wife however was disappointed with the prawn cocktailfor starters and the Pork Medallions with cider and apple sauce, which was very sweet and sickly.

Overall, the food was not bad or unpleasant, but for the price we paid, it was not quite worth it. Maybe going before 6:30 would be more satisfying. Even though I would not write this place off and would possibly go again, I was disappoitned with the overall experience as it was our Anniversary and a number of people had sung it's praises.
