“Horrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2009

It was very dirty and unpleasant. The rooms are plain and there is very little space within them. The walls have dirt all over them- and it does not feel comfortable to be in the hotel. To make it worse, when we left a friend in a different room had mysterious red spots on them- which turned out to be bed bug bites from the room. Will never stay there again-- would never recommend it unless you want to have bugs biting you and being surrounded by filthiness.

“could do better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2009

Ok I wasn't expecting a lot for for £70/night for a double room and nor did i get it. So i'll start with the good....check-in was ok (3 of our party were booked in under the wrong name though). we were able to check in early as we were off to a rugby match and some of the rooms were ready even at 11am. The room was clean, comfortable and warm. lots of tea and coffee stuff and the shower was powerful and hot. Breakfast was good lots of choice from a continental breakfast and the staff were attentive. Now the not so good. The check in process was slow, I was unable to pay by cheque as i hadn't sent it through in advance but was not told this on booking. The hotel is in need of a good lick of paint all over and we couldn't find the advertised bar. In fact the whole place needs updating badly, the mirror in my friends room was cracked and there were scuff marks everywhere. also this place is not suitable for those with walking difficulties or prams as all the rooms bar two are up several flights of stairs.

It is however near the train station and Newport town centre and the staff here were incredibly friendly and happy to help. Would i come back here? maybe if they could sort out the little things that make all the difference.

“close to town...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2008

we booked the Night Lodge for a short weekend stay, paid £60.00 each night for the room, but was quite disapointed. the double room was tiny, the bed very clinical and not comfy. When the pillows were moved the head board was covered in hairs that did not belong to us. the toilet roll holder was falling off the wall, and there was no toilet seat. the shower was good as it was a power shower and they did supply soap/shower gel in a dispenser. breakfast was good too.
the property is situated really close to everything which was really the only really good thing about it.
quite gutted really because the staff(when you saw them) we're friendly but the actual accommodation is not worth £60.00 a night at all.

“Okay Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2008

The Hotel was very easy to find. Sat Nav took us right to the door! Although on arrival 4pm there was no one there!?! We waited for 20mins but no one arrived so we went for a walk around Newport. When we come back it looked like the staff were just arriving. 5pm!
£65 is too much for the service you get... we only saw one member of staff for the whole duration of our stay.
Room is small, bed is uncomfy and the shower frame was broken!
Location was great and Breakfast was good. Although the cereal was out of date by 3 months, lol!
Kooks were good! only reason we stayed at Newport.
In my opinion this hotel is trying to be like Travelodge, but no where near their standard and need to drop thier prices a little.
Dont think i would go back...

“Budget hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2007

The hotel is in a good location, not far from the Town Centre with ample parking. The rooms are very basic with a Bed (which was far too soft) , TV, Tea & Coffee making facilities and a small bathroom with a shower.
They are on the small side but ample for a few nights stay. The owners were very friendly and helpful and available at all times.
I thought they were very expensive compared to a Travel Lodge/Travel inn but the location was good. The breakfast is continental which was a suprise compared to the amount charged for the room. I would stay there again if I could not find a travel lodge, which I think you cannot beat for price.
