“Only Ok”

Stayed here for a rugby match in Cardiff because there was no rooms left in Cardiff. It worked out well because Newport is only about 15 minutes away by train. The accommodation itself is very basic. Rooms are small with little or no charicter. The staff were very friendly and helpful but the whole place really needs an overhall. As a last resort it's ok for a night or two but thats it. Also at check in there is a price list for the rooms but because it was a rugby weekend we were charged more. They could have made an effort and taken down the price list at least.

“Good place to stay. Clean and well located”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

We stayed at this hotel one night when travelling in Wales and we recommend it. Don't expect much from a B&B type of accommodation, but it is clean and well located with free parking, For a cheap stay at a clean and nice simple hotel this is a good option.

“Horrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2009

It was very dirty and unpleasant. The rooms are plain and there is very little space within them. The walls have dirt all over them- and it does not feel comfortable to be in the hotel. To make it worse, when we left a friend in a different room had mysterious red spots on them- which turned out to be bed bug bites from the room. Will never stay there again-- would never recommend it unless you want to have bugs biting you and being surrounded by filthiness.

“could do better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2009

Ok I wasn't expecting a lot for for £70/night for a double room and nor did i get it. So i'll start with the good....check-in was ok (3 of our party were booked in under the wrong name though). we were able to check in early as we were off to a rugby match and some of the rooms were ready even at 11am. The room was clean, comfortable and warm. lots of tea and coffee stuff and the shower was powerful and hot. Breakfast was good lots of choice from a continental breakfast and the staff were attentive. Now the not so good. The check in process was slow, I was unable to pay by cheque as i hadn't sent it through in advance but was not told this on booking. The hotel is in need of a good lick of paint all over and we couldn't find the advertised bar. In fact the whole place needs updating badly, the mirror in my friends room was cracked and there were scuff marks everywhere. also this place is not suitable for those with walking difficulties or prams as all the rooms bar two are up several flights of stairs.

It is however near the train station and Newport town centre and the staff here were incredibly friendly and happy to help. Would i come back here? maybe if they could sort out the little things that make all the difference.
