“very good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Faced with an unexpected visit to Newport just after Christmas we were able (thanks to Trip Advisor) to get a terrific late booking deal at the Hilton Newport. £40 for the room (inc Vat) for the night. Bearing in mind that we would have had to pay at least £20 more than that for a Premier or Travelodge we gave it a try. We were not disappointed and would certainly try this option again.
We had an excellent room with everything you'd expect for £100+ plus per night room. Free car parking almost outside the door. A nice welcome at reception with a handy bar in the lobby .... and a coffee bar in the morning for an early start.
A word of caution: be careful on the local roundabout and don't, as we did, take off up the Monmouth Road where we found it was 11 miles before we could turn round and come back!

“Groupon Spa Day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012
1
person found this review helpful

I booked the spa day through a groupon deal for my mum as a birthday present, I have been to lots of hotel before doing this and as i have worked in hotels and sell hotels on a day to day basis so i am probably the worlds fussiest customer when it comes to spas.

The car parking was free of charge which was brill and so close to the m4 it was easy to find. If i had been staying here overnight i would have been pleased as there were a few restaurants close to the hotel that we could have used rather than just having to use the hotel restaurant.

When we arrived at the spa reception we were greeted by a lovely young man who gave us our towells and signed us in. He advised us to get changed and comfertable and the lady we needed to see regarding the spa treatments would come and find us. When we got into the changing rooms the lady was thera and told us she had booked our treatments in for us and laid out towells on the sun loungers. The lady was so welcoming it was brill.

The spa facilities are not amazing and they do look a bit run down but so clean and the staff were cleaning and checking we were ok all the time. We were made to feel so welcome it was lovely.

The treatments were brill and as my mum has a very bad back they made sure she was comfertable at all times and nothing was too much trouble.

The best part about this day was the staff, they are a credit to the hotel and really made our visit special. I would def go back to the hotel and will hopefully stay over night there to try it as i will def be sending my customers there.

Room Tip: Havnt stayed in a room but i would ask for a nice view

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. My apologies for the flickering light in your bedroom, we encourage our guests to let us know about any bedroom issues so that we are able to immediately rectify the problem to ensure you have a comfortable stay.

With regard to the room service, we offer a number of different menus throughout the hotel including our Seasons Restaurant menu which is £19.95 for two courses or £22.95 for three courses and I feel offers good value for money.

I do hope we have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the hotel, if you contact me directly I will ensure you are allocated a first floor bedroom, my email address is nadine.rees@hilton.com

Thank you once again for your feedback.

“Room way too cold.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The rooms are big but freezing. We had the heating on all night and it was never warm enough.

The hotel itself is far from modern but is clean and the staff are way above average. Breakfast average.

If you have to stay here ring ahead and ask them to put another extra heater in your room and crank them both up to maximum.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I was so pleased to read that you found the staff to be good as I truly believe that this is essential to a successful hotel.

I am really sorry to hear that you found your bedroom cold, since we have had the recent cold spell, we leave all the bedroom heaters on continuously whether occupied or vacant to ensure the room are nice and warm on arrival. Would you be kind enough to email me your room number so that I can check that the heater was fully working. My email address is nadine.rees@hilton.com.

Thanks again for your review and I hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back very soon.

Best wishes

“Nice Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We had a very pleasant weekend break here. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food was very nice (best Hilton breakfast I've had) - well cooked and flavourfull. Room was OK, although a little tired (probably due for a re-decoration). We will visit again........
