“Great venue, even greater hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

just stayed at the celtic as I was attending a charity fundraising ball. First off, I have to say that my text box is full of messages saying how wonderful the venue was and what great food. Well done chef and team, can't be easy creating amazing food for 300 to such a high standard. The check in was flawless, my room wasn't ready so the receptionist took my mobile and called me when it was. He rooms are lovely, spacious and well supplied with good quality coffee and sockets.

We arrived back in our rooms at 1.30am after the ball ended and the complimentary turn down service was a delightful touch especially the little welsh cakes and water.

Breakfast was OK, though very busy and no real savoury options for non meat eaters which was a pity.

I have but two small critiques which the hotel might consider. For rooms facing the golf course, some voiles along the windows woukd be good as you don't wan to keep closing the curtains when you want to change. Secondly, consider steam irons, the in room irons make it very difficult to iron creased dress shirts and when one has to look ones best a good iron can make or break the evening.

I should also mention the bathroom which was bright and uber clean, one might even say sparkling.

Apart from those little niggles, this is hotel most certainly deserves its 5 star status and with extremely helpful and charming staff, I can see why it is so busy. Well done on an excellent product.

“You would never know you were in Newport...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

This resort is very impressive, and has much more going for it than just the golf. There is a ropes course, adventure golf and a huge pool and spa area for those with free time. I found the hotel had a real feeling of luxury right from when you entered the lobby that extended to the the rooms themselves - mine had a full marble bathroom and views over the golf course! Contrary to some of the comments I found the staff to be kind and courteous, though I was here on a business conference and so can't comment on whether it was value for money.

“good short stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I stayed here for 1 night as part of a conference. I did not have time to use the spa facilities.
The hotel is big,but well maintained. The conference facilities are a fair distance from the rooms so do not disturb other guests.
The rooms are large, as are the bathrooms. I appreciated that there was a separate shower cubile and bath tub. The water in the sink did not drain well, which i reported to check out staff on departure.
The food provided during the conference and breakfast was average for such a grand hotel.
My collegues and family who have previously visited the hotel highly recommend the golf course and facilities.
The satff on hand were friendly and helpful.
I would stay here again as it is also a short journey from london and easy to get to.

“A lovely stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed at the Celtic Manor on a Sunday evening for my father's 75th birthday. On arrival at the front entrance our car was valet parked and on entering the hotel we were impressed by the lobby area and check in process. Although our rooms weren't ready we were told we would be called as soon as they were so we went down to the spa to enjoy the facilities. We have stayed at the Celtic Manor previously on corporate events and have always been impressed by the standard of the hotel. We were not disappointed this time either, the rooms are well appointed and quiet and the free wifi throughout the hotel is a bonus. We ate both dinner and breakfast in the Olive Tree restaurant and were impressed with the quality of food on both occasions.

The only downside for us was the amount of people using the spa and especially the noise level of the children allowed to use the swimming pool. We were looking forward to relaxing by the pool and using the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi but this was made impossible by the sheer numbers. It would be much better, especially on a Sunday afternoon, if the spa could be dedicated to 'adults only'.

Overall we had a pleasant stay and my parents enjoyed their treat but I think for my mothers birthday next year I will probably try and find a more intimate and less family oriented hotel.

“First Class Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

This resort has the wow factor.

If you love your golf, you will love Celtic Manor. Unfortunately when we went we didn't play the 2010 course as they were getting it ready for the Ryder Cup.

But, The Roman Road and Montgomerie course were excellent and in great condition, the practice facilities are 2nd to none and the food and drink is excellent and reasonably priced. The staff are excellent and love to give you advice on the course etc.

We stayed in in the Manor House and the rooms were spotless, the icing on the cake is the spa. After a long day playing golf it is the perfect way to relax before dinner and a pint in the bar.

All in all I would strongly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: Choose early tee times and pack waterproofs!
