“More than adequate for the "true campers"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

Having read the other reviews I was very aprehensive to go to this camp. Look folks, if your "true campers" this site is actually very good. Yes the toilets and showers were a bit drab but not too bad. The water was hot and it was clean! The owners are very friendly and they don't bother you! Not like the "little Hitlers" we have experienced on other sites. The layout of the site is very good and the grass was very well maintained (short) and the ground was nice and even. THe location is pretty good too. Its only a 5 minute drive to the beach (Newton being the best one) and of course you have the Porthcawl Funfair nearby too. Get a grip you other moaners! You shoudn't expect the Ritz. Camping should be about roughin' it a bit and having fun!

“Never again!”

Never again! Firstly the owner’s attitude was dreadful: no warmth whatsoever {lucky for him there's not a lot of choice around this area}, secondly, the site is small and far too crammed and cramped, thirdly the play area is seldom available, fourthly the whole ambience and ethos feels restrictive – more like a compound for TV-Caravan addicts than campers, and lastly the ‘10 minute away pub’ is a ghetto for the complacent commuter rich. Shame really, because in the Real World Porthcawl is great.

“Worst night of our lives!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

On arrival the camp seemed quite pleasant, however when entering the reception area (shop/game room/supposed tv room) we realised why this camp is hardly used. For less than 24 hours and 3 tents i payed £50 which was a total waste of money as there was no facilities as was advertised. The owner was more interested in selling sweets to kids than speaking to new guests. The childrens play area was not sutible for a dog! After giving him our money an him telling us where to go we started to set up our tents and to keep us in one area, we erected our gazebo as a central point for all of our family to eat. He came over and stated that a gazebo is used as a drinking den, we explained what it was for and this was just the beginning! He walked past every 5 minutes picking up sweets which my grand children were dropping of which my wife and sister in law were keeping an eye and tidying up after after! Across the field about 30 yards was the site security which did not stop watching us and made us all feel uncomforable!! At around 10.20pm the owner came over and told us to keep the noise down and basically go to bed! I felt disgusted by this and wanted to tell him that both myself and wife were over 40 and have never been spoken to like that! As he walked way there was a tent further up the field whooping and making more noise than us (5am in the morning the noise eventually stopped!) and he totally ignored that tent and went back to his! Obviousley there is a different rule for seasonal and new guests! Please read this review and you will not go wrong and please do yourselves a favour, find an alternative camp!!

“Poor customer service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Have just returned from a weekend away camping with friends - 7 adults, 4 kids, 2 caravans and a tent! When we arrived we had to knock the main house as the shop was closed and were told we'd have to wait as the owner was "eating his lunch!". Once they did come out to allocate us spaces there had obviously been some kind of error with our booking which seemed to result in us being squashed on to 2 pitches as opposed to 3 (site was very overcrowded anyway). The children were then told off for just looking at the sweets and told the shop wasn't open and they had to wait! Not the best of starts!

Facilities:
Cleaned once a day from what we experienced, if you went to the toilets or showers either first thing in the morning or last thing at night they were dirty. All facilities in need of a major revamp. Site itself maintained well with no rubbish and well kept grass.

Pitches:
Small and too many crammed onto the site. Many of the pitches appeared to be for long stay customers.

Customer service:
From the male owner - very poor. Attitude was shocking, they're lucky there's not a lot of choice around this area!
From the female owner - better but not welcoming as described in some reviews I've seen.

Value for money:
Very poor, we've stayed in a 5* site in Cornwall with far superior facilities for £3.50 extra for the total stay!

“small and friendly - just what we wanted.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

We are a group of friends in our 30s, and stayed here 2 nights - in South Wales on a Gaavin and Stacey pilgrimage to nearby Baarry Island : )
The campsite is small, low-key and friendly, a bit basic facility-wise, but has what you need in terms of wash/ toilet facilities, and a small shop. The owners are friendly and helpful, as were the other residents while we were there. A short walk to the village (Nottage), with 3 good pubs to choose from for food and drink. It's not a rowdy party-hard sort of place, but pretty easy going - we had no complaints afer a couple of late night drinks and giggles. We would definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again.
