This hotel is in desperate need of upgrading as the decor is shabby and the hotel is not very clean. In our room the carpet edges and skirting boards were thick dust, the bedside cabinet was cracked, and the bathroom floor was filthy. The bath mat was stained, the sink chipped and the loo seat was supposed to be black but was so old it had faded to white/greyish and looked dirty. The room had glass doors that opened out on to a brick wall and about a metre square of concrete full of overgrown weeds and fag ends!
When we asked for the bathroom to be cleaned the staff were very defensive and instead of apologising and getting it cleaned they rang the owner who suggested we pay up and check out!! This is on the basis that we dared to 'complain' the previous day by asking if they had another room as ours was dark and dingy and commenting on the early hours of the breakfast. As we had a wedding to get to we did stay and the bathroom was cleaned but the staff clearly have no idea of what hotel standards should be like or about customer service - it was all amatuerish as if they were doing us a favour!
If the poor standards weren't bad enough, the breakfast on the weekend is only between 8-9am and on Sunday, because everyone went as close to 9.00 as possible there weren't enough tables so guests had to share a table. Not what you want when you've just woken up and have had a late night! Then you have to check out by a very inhospitable 10.00am. Our overall feeling was that this was just about raking in the money from the customer and doing the minimum possible. We were also asked to pay in advance and charged £1.50 for using a credit card. If the alternative is the street, I'd stay here but otherwise would go elsewhere.
