We got there early Sunday in readiness for the rugby, so the room wasn't ready, which is totally understandable. The staff said to leave the bags there, no issues at all (the bags were in the room when we got back - nice touch). We got back in time for dinner, which we had in the cosy bar. Dinner wasn't special but very nice all the same and very reasonably priced (starters, two main courses, huge pudding to share + a bottle of wine and two drinks, £50 - you don't find that in many hotels!). The room was basic and a bit out-dated, but clean and warm. The breakfast was good with lots of choice. The staff is super-friendly. Overall, the hotel could do with being freshened up in various areas, but perhaps that is part of the plan? It is located in walking distance from the city centre, however, I wouldn't recommend the walk if you carry any luggage. I would have no hesitation of staying here again and can't quite understand the negative reviews.

We didnt stay at the Hotel we only dined there. Service was excellent, waitresses very friendly and attentive such a shame that the food didn't match their staff's performance.

A single overnight stay in this slightly elderly hotel which is busy, and trying hard. Well appointed bathroom and good bedding. When we arrived on Saturday evening a wedding was in full flight so bar staff and public rooms were busy. We dined out and when I went up to my room (9) to sleep discovered that it smelt quite strongly of chip fat! Opening the window provided some relief from the smell but at the expense of early slumber as it is very close to the area where the wedding disco / dance was taking place! That ended before midnight (thank goodness).

Apart from that all was well, with a good breakfast, and happy if very busy staff.

I wouldn't stay here if you paid me. As mentioned in other reviews the staff here were okay. Yes they were young, yes they needed to be prodded to get their attention but overall they are this hotels best feature - though that isn't saying a lot.
The room (room 2) was dirty, water stains on all of the walls, a dirty mattres, a dirty ironing board and a bathroom that stank of mildew. The drawrs had lots of drawers missing; oddly. Plus there was an infestation of ladybirds! There were at least 30 in the room! We managed to cloear these out but discovered rotting window frames were to blame.
A very sad balcony with no access was covered in dying rotting plant life attracting a lot of flies.
The whole place - except for the bar really needs an overhaul. The outside could look lovely if someone just spent the time to clean it!

Overall not a great choice.
