“Cheap and cheerful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2010

My husband and I went to a concert at Cardiff International Arena during May bank holiday weekend and stayed in this B&B for one night. It was only £50 for the night when all the other hotels/B&Bs were either booked up or in the region of £70-90 per night and required a two-night stay!
It is only a 10 minute stroll to the Castle and city centre, parking is available at the rear of the hotel, breakfast was continental not full english but it was very substantial! Our room was a decent size and was clean except for the shower, but all-in-all I would reccommend it and stay again. If you're looking for cheap, cheerful and very friendly then this place is ideal!

“A Lovely Place To Stay”

Arrived at Cardiff from Dublin on Feb 12th for a gig not knowing of the 6-nations rugby Wales-Scotland match that took place that weekend at the Millenium. All the B&B's and guesthouses i noted down were fully booked as were hotels i checked on spot, others had only twin rooms or 2-night deals. At Carlton i was welcomed by Ms. Rogers who was happy to let me a 3-bed room for a price less than what most others charge for a single. The room was very clean, the heating was working around the clock, the bed was cosy and hot water ran in the (small) shower. Good coffee and tea were provided in the room, and the breakfast was generous. And, Ms. Rogers has some nice stories to tell too. Highly recommended.

“Shocked by the Carlton House Hotel”

We went to Cardiff to see The Police in concert at the Millenium stadium on the 19th October. We emailed tons of Hotels and B&B's but all were fully booked! Finally got a reccomendation from a B&B for the Carlton House Hotel, so we booked 2 nights by letter, no deposit taken or confirmation sent. On your site the photo is incorrect and misleading! That is actually the Cathedral on the same road as the Hotel. We checked in at 7pm and the lady owner was very pleasent, but the whole place is falling apart at the seams. There were no matress protectors under the thread bare sheets, no curtains at the windows - only a net - and no sign of any rods where curtains could be hung! No cold water in the en-suite, the tap just turned, no sanitary bin, no towel rail. No breakfast served on Sat morning, the owner suggested we go to the B&B next door for it! So we checked out on Sat and took the train to Bristol.
P.S The concert was fab!
