I stayed here for one night. The hostel was not too hard to find, just a few minutes' walk out of Cardiff centre in a quiet residential area... perhaps a little too quiet. On arrival the lone staff member was professional, but didn't manage to muster a smile. The premises seemed decent and modern, while the twin room I was to share was clean but very definitely spartan in its furnishing. I believe there was a bunk bed, and two lockers, but no other furniture whatsoever. I don't remember what the communal bathroom was like. The bed was not the most luxurious, but quite acceptable for one night's sleep. I did not meet the traveller I was sharing with as he came home late when I was already in bed and I left while he still slept in the morning.
There was no street noise to awaken me in the night. During my stay I did not see a single other guest or staff member. It all seemed a bit like Bates' Motel - a good place to get murdered! The hostel and its surrounding area were like a ghost town, and walking back there at 11pm was definitely unsettling. This would not have been such a problem if I had been in a group of travellers. Despite a good standard of cleanliness and modernity, this hostel's isolation seems to be its downfall. Peace and quiet is nice to have, especially in a city like Cardiff, but a little more life inside or out would make this hostel a nicer and safer place to stay.
