“Good value for your money”

2 couples stayed in this hotel. Quiet pleasant. Our room was not too big but for what we spent in it was enough! The other room was bigger and had a little terrace. There is a nice lounge downstairs. The staff were very friendly. The coocked breakfast was very nice. 20 mints walk from the centre. Plenty of space to park the car outside the B&B. There is a bus stop just in front of the hotel. 4 restaurants, post office, cash machine, just minutes from the B&B. We'll stay there again!

“Preste Gaarden - value for money and a pleasant quiet place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

Preste Gaarden is run by a friendly couple. They were welcoming and offered info about the area on arrival. The rooms are pleasantly decorated, with style and taste considered. It looks like the couple really care about their hotel. They had a lovely lounge downstairs with a Christmas Tree already up. The place was nice and quiet to get a good nights sleep and the breakfast was good. Wifi sometimes cut out however. I would say great value for money. Parking is on the rmain road directly outside with no restrictions.

“Lovely guest house, very close to centre of Cardiff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Me and my wife had a two night stay here in October and from reading the decription in the visit cardiff booklet we were not disapointed! The owner was so friendly and willing to help as much as possible and the room we had at the back of the property had its own balcony but due to the weather we couldn't make use of it! Would certainly return here again in future..

“Staff so friendly and knowledgeable, hotel traditional and charming”

We were after a hotel that was within our student budget and after calling by phone got ourself a lovely deal on a room. We arrived early in the morning and was greeted by the owner who welcomed us in, offering us toast, tea and orange juice whilst his wife was arranging our check-in. As we arrived early our rooms were not ready until 11am so we decided to go for a 10minute walk into the city centre. The reception area has a selection of maps and tourist attractions and the guy was very helpful in directing us to the city through the beautiful park.
Our room itself was quite nice, a double bed, with a single bed in the corner (we manage to get a family room), a built wardrobe, vanity table and mirror with coffee facility, a flatscreen tv and an en-suite. The room was clean and well presented and noise was not an issue.
Breakfast is lovely, both owners are very friendly and helpful, always asking if you need more toast or coffee and are keen on suggesting places you could explore. I'd like to highlight I was rather impressed at 11pm he could still suggest restaurants nearby to eat at, considering most closed at 10:30pm. The hotel itself is on a nice main street lined with beautiful houses, other hotels and pubs.
Would definitely recommend if you're after a charming traditional budget hotel.

“Shabby and depressing”

The room rate had been increased because the rugby was in, but we weren't in Cardiff for the rugby, so that was slightly annoying. When we arrived, we were told that the best room in the hotel, which I had been told I was booking when I made my reservation, had been given to someone else in error. We were put in a slightly cheaper room instead. They're recently put up a new curtain, new tiles in the bathroom and new wallpaper & lamps, and a tray of tea and biscuits in sealed packers, but there was a hole in my bedsheet, and the dressing table was chipped. The carpet didn't look too great either. There was a hair in the shower cubicle when we arrived, and it was still there when we left two days later (even though the cleaners came in during our stay). Neither of us wanted to use the shower as the bathroom and the room itself just didn't feel very clean. Each bed had a satin bedspread, but it was grubby and shabby and it didn't feel that great sleeping under it. The wardrobe had an oddly homemade-looking door which too an effort to open and close. We were woken on the first morning by the sounds of someone vomiting in the communal bathroom next to our room (not the hotel's fault, but the walls seemed a bit thin!). We didn't have breakfast on either morning because we felt a bit grimy. I'd put down a 50% deposit when booking the room initially, then paid the rest on the day of arrival. On the last morning, we hung our key on the hook and left as we didn't really want to face the proprietors, feeling somewhat awkward about our less than ideal experience. On returning home, I found out that I had been called by the proprietors, demanding to know why I hadn't paid up. I really was annoyed by this - not only had I stayed in a rip-off room, but I was now being accused of stealing! They rang me again and said "Oh, you've not paid, it must be an oversight on your part." I said I *had* paid and the bloke seemed determined to argue that I hadn't paid. He claimed to be confused by my description of the man who I gave the money to on the day I arrived. I should really at this point have said that I thought his hotel was a bit of a hole, but I thought that if I did, he'd think I'd not paid as a protest - when I *had* paid. I really was very unhappy about this, and it illustrates perfectly why I usually stay in a Premier Inn when I go away!
