“For a 2* Hotel I was very impressed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

person found this review helpful

I normally book 4* hotels, but stayed here for 2 nights with a group of students, and I must admit, I was impressed. The rooms were clean and well presented, the bathroom was spotless, the towels and bedding was all fresh and clean. Rooms all had tea and coffee facilities, checking in and out with 40 people was made simple by the staff and all the rooms were cleaned well during our stay. I didn't hear a single complaint from our students. It was only 20 minutes from the City Centre, £10.00 seemed to be about the average taxi price and I like the chalet style rooms which open to the outside. The back of the hotel overlooks countryside, and there is a small field at the back. Altough the main road is nearby it is very quiet once inside the rooms. The breakfast was very good, a generous continental, and staff were very happy to help answer questions. For a budget hotel at budget prices it would be hard to find better - just be realistic about the price and star rating - you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Dear Lucy and Peter,

Thank you for your positive comments after a recent stay with us. Delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and was suitably impressed with the personal service that we offer. We do try extremely hard to ensure that all our guests are suitably taken care of when staying with us, and it is always a pleasure to hear the feedback when this has been well received, as this indicates to us we are doing something right!

Do you know you can use the public transport which is located at the end of the road (300 yards from the hotel) with a regular service every 7/8 minutes and single ticket cost £1.60 per way!

My team and I look forward to taking care of you again when you next come to stay with us.

Kind regards

Eric Blanda

“Not the rits but it was £28!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

We booked the room online and paid £28, for this we had a clean room and bathroom, comfy bed, very well heated room a television and coffee making facilites for the night - exactly what we wanted.
The new menu at the bar was great value for money £14.99 for 3 courses of well cooked FULLplates - (there was another "special" menu as well that did not look as nice!! )
Staff on arrival were very nice and welcoming, one of the waiters was a bit abrupt but well meaning!
The only complaint that we had was that the member of staff at checkout was far from pleasant a sour end to an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: we did hear a little traffic from our room facing the road but it was not too loud

“Wouldn't bother again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

The campanile is a clean hotel on the outskirts of Cardiff city centre. On arrival the chap manning reception tried charging us more than what was agreed at the time of booking (apparently he had 2 prices on screen and tried charging the more expensive option). The rooms are clean and come with the usual you'd expect. the bathroom like the hotel is clean however is damp and it does look like theyve painted over the damp patches. I would advise against eating at the hotel, we decided against breakfast but the food on the bar menu is poor. We had beef madras which came out of packets and fish and chips that was probably from Iceland (some fish inside the batter would have been nice!). A taxi from the hotel to city centre is £12.

Dear JT Robinson,

Thank you for your comments relating to your recent stay with us. ..
The cleanliness of our hotel is paramount and something that our guests normally comment on quite highly. We pride ourselves in keeping a spotlessly clean hotel, as best we can. I have passed your positive comments on to my Head Housekeeper and my Maintenance person, whilst they personally checks all rooms once they have been cleaned will ensure that extra focus is placed to monitor the standards.

I am mortified with regards to your comments about the food quality served in our restaurant and I may reinsured you we are not used "Iceland" but more respectufull nominated supliers. I do apologise if you feel that our restaurant and food mainly was not serviced to our usual high standard but we have also a large selection of à la Carte with Main Course start from £9.50 and selection of set menus and not only a Bar snack available.

I should like to restore your faith in us, and ask that you give us another try, as what you experienced during your stay in our restaurant and at the check in is not normal practice and to put right the negative aspects of your last stay and notably to no try to overcharge you by accident.

Kind regards,

Eric Blanda

Very friendly reception. Clean room, although quite small, clean bathroom, very comfortable beds. Help yourself first course dinner buffet, and help yourself continental breakfast buffet very good.

The car access and car park are on a very steep slope which may cause difficulty if walking is hard for you.

Room Tip: Free WiFi available in both the Reception and Rooms. Rooms at the back are quieter. Those at the fro...

“Not the Ritz, but not the pits!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

Stopped here on the 5th of September the room its self was clean and the staff were very helpfull. The wifi worked fine after disconecting once then reconecting. The hill would be a massive problem if you are disabled or struggle to walk. I like the fact that i could park my car outside the hotel room. Take a 4 gang extension lead if you are staying as there is only one plug socket.

The room itself is quite small as is the half bath but you get what you pay for and I thought it was pretty good value for money. I thought it was a 50 pound max room and would not pay any more than this, unless i was desperate.

All In all not the ritz but not the pits.
