Recently returned from the Angel at Cardiff. What a welcome! We used our Tesco tokens to pay for three nights dinner, bed and breakfast. We were surprised when we booked that we were offered this option as we thought that Tesco vouchers could only be used for accommodation. On arrival at about 1200 our room was not ready but the friendly receptionist offered to keep our bags behind the counter for us and we went off to find lunch. The hotel is ideally situated about 100 yards from the top of the shopping precinct and 400 yards or so from the entrance for the Millenium Stadium. Had large room with a relatively new bathroom, I agree that the rooms are too hot but as it was freezing outside it was good to come in to the warm. We were able to open the windows and this cooled the room a little and the passing traffic noise wasn't intrusive. Carpets were a bit worn and the wardrobe had seen better days but the super kingsize bed was very comfortable with good quality sheets and pillows. We were in Room 301 which had a sort of ante room with sofa tea making etc, all made for a good stay but the best thing about the hotel is the friendly staff who go out of their way to be helpful even letting us out of the private rear entrance to our car in the pouring rain. Car park is about 100 yards walk away behind the hotel in Westgate Street. On the Sunday night the restaurant is closed but we had already booked an extra night on the Monday on their B&B rate so they let us transfer our dinner to the Monday and enjoyed a meal in a nearby Thai restaurant. They do however have a good bar menu on Sunday evenings. all in al a great weekend taking in rugby match, football match and Judo competition and two films plus shopping. Thanks Barcelo!
