We booked two rooms for the RBS Beef Nations and were disappointed. Yes, it is central and the staff pleasant but the attempt at minimalistic decor falls flat when you realise it is an attempt to cheapen the fit-out costs. Thin duvets, thin towels, no wardrobe (just a £5 Ikea rail - no good for a beef-cam), thin carpets and a suspended ceiling straight from an office.

The shower stopped running so only one of us got a shower (friends in another room had the same problem). One of the lifts was out of order. After all that, we didn't think it was worth making an effort for the (continental) breakfast.

It's a cheapish central option but not one to visit with your missus.

This hotel is very central for the train and bus stations as well as is right in the downtown area. It's not a fancy hotel, by any means. If you're looking for luxury, you will be disappointed. If you're a backpacker or someone who islooking to get a good deal and value for their money, this is for you. Yeah, the carpets are old and a bit dirty looking. The furnishings are simple, but, the price is very cheap, the rooms are large, bright and have their own washrooms (I say this, because we paid less to stay here than we at a hostel in cardiff the night before). The decor is very colorful, perhaps tacky, but when else are you going to stay in a room that is brilliantly pink or blue? Overall, this is a great place to take your family, significant other or friends for a night or longer, as long as you're noT expecting luxury and posh surroundings.

We stayed just one night at this hotel, glad we did not have to stay any longer. The hotel does not accept guests before 3pm (what's that all about), the key cards have to put into the locks upsidedown - so that confused us. There is no heating in the rooms until the key card is placed inside the slot in the room, so our room was extremely cold, luckily there were 2 of us so we could leave one key inside the room whilst we went out and then the room was quite cosy when we returned. There is only enough hot water for one person to shower, again this is activated by the key card in the room, so you can't have a shower when you first arrive, it took all night to get hot. This hotel is opposite the Cardiff Motorsport arena, so was very convenient for us as we were visiting the ice show which was showing there. The breakfast was excellent, continental style but plenty to offer. The staff were also very helpful but unfortunately could not improve the heating or hot water situation as it was all automated. We noticed that most of the hotels in the Cardiff city area are extremely close to all activities so we would pick another when we visit again.

We wanted a cheap hotel for a couple of nights as a post christmas break. Booked the big sleep with some trepidation after some rubbish reviews. Yes its a bit cheap and cheerful and I wasnt keen on the fluffy curtains,,,,, what was that about? The bathroom was a bit grotty, not particularly dirty but in need of new tiles and update. But I still feel it was good value, the room was spacious enough, nice comfy bed, tea and coffee facilities , tv etc and the location was very good. Right in the middle of Cardiff and a two minute walk over to the centre. It wasnt noisy, we had a decent nights sleep and the breakfast was included. Ok it was a student type breakfast, help your self but we certainly we not the oldest there. for the price I would definately go back, if you want a bit of luxury you have to pay for it
