I needed a hotel for one night in order to attend a course in central Cardiff. I couldn't have timed it better! My search came up with a double room at the Travelodge at Atlantic Wharf for £15! Yes £15!!!!!! I wasn't looking for anything special, just a basic room for the night so I didn't want to pay over the odds. Prior to this quotes for most establishments where averaging about £60- £70 at the very least so when I saw the offer I thought it was a mistake!
It wasn't, it was just that Travelodge are offering a "sale" for a limited period of a month or so following the festive break.
The room was perfectly acceptable and apart from a few marks on the carpet which had clearly seen better days and few scuff marks on the walls the decor was surprisingly pleasant. Let's face it, it was never going to be The Ritz and it could never be described as "plush but I was genuinely pleased at how clean and well presented it was. Clean and fresh bedding, clean bath/shower unit. I had to remind myself that I was only paying £15 and almost felt a little guilty!!
The TV had a smallish screen which offered all the terrestrial channels plus a few freeview channels but surpisingly not all of them! All staff were pleasant and helpful. A pleasant stay with a nice satisfying feeling of having had a bit of a bargain. Upon arrival I decided to order breakfast for the following morning and I thought this was fair for the pice of £7.65 or something like that for which you could eat as much as you liked!
I just don't know how they make any profit going by the prices they were offering and I will certainly use Travelodge again even if it meant paying more "normal" fees ! Car parking is good. You have to take a ticket to enter the grounds which is validated by the hotel when you leave so you don't have to pay
One final word of warning! Be careful if you use SATNAV for directions. The hotel is in quite a large commercial complex and it brought me to the Capital FM building. I arrived at night and the hotel was not visible as it was hidden behind the building even though the hotel itself must be one of the biggest Travelodges I've ever seen! I went around driving for miles thinking the SATNAV was faulty!
