“A great base to stay”

Used this hotel a great deal whilst working in Cardiff. As with all Travelodges it does what it says on the tin. This one was different, even if the rooms were the same. There was great friendliness from staff and location excellent for the bay and the shops.

Can be busy when special events are on in Cardiff - so booking essential. Has a cafe as part of the hotel. There is free parking and the hotel is next to the Red Dragon Centre - cinema, bowling and restaurants.

The hotel is also very convienient for the Welsh Assembly Building and the Millenium Centre

Room Tip: Ask for room at the front - away from Red Dragon Centre - there was some noise from the back at nigh...

“One of the best”

My husband and I often stay over night in Cardiff after going to a show or just having a celebratory meal. We have tried several hotels near Cardiff Bay as the location is so good, but this one does come out as "one of the best". Hotel itself very clean, warm and comfortable. Reception staff very friendly and obliging (I had forgotten my hairdryer, but on asking if it was possible to borrow one from Reception was given one straight away with no fuss).

The only complaint we had - which the Receptionist said was the first of its kind - was that the room was so quiet we overslept in the morning.

Would definitely recommend a stay here.

“Yes it is basic, but....”

We stayed in this Travelodge for one night while we were visiting friends around the Cardiff area. We are frequent travellers to Cardiff so know the area well and have stayed in many hotels in the vicinity (I have stayed here before but forgot to review it).

The Hotel
The location couldn't really be much better as it is right in the bay about a 1 minute walk from the Red Dragon centre. There is plenty of parking although in the evenings it can get busy due to everything else on site. When you want to leave you just need to get your car park ticket validated and that makes your parking free. The staff (we only saw two) were friendly and helpful and checking in was a breeze and took no time at all.

The Room
The room is just like every other Travelodge you will stay in, basic but perfectly decent. It was clean, with a double bed and a en-suite shower/toilet room. There was a small tv on the wall (couldn't get the tv guide to work) and a desk with kettle etc... We had to ask for one more pillow as they are very thin but this was no problem and the girl on reception got this for us straight away.

Overall
A nice hotel in a great location and if you book it early enough you can get it for a great price that blows out all the competition. We paid £34 for one night at this hotel and it was worth it, we only used the hotel to sleep so why pay more? Keep it up Travelodge

“As expected from Travelodge”

I have seen one or two negative reviews about this hotel but my impressions are contrary to those. I found a typical Travelodge with a clean, comfortable room and very acceptable food in the restaurant. It's not a palatial four-star place but it doesn't pretend to be. I would happily stay here again.

“What a bargain!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I needed a hotel for one night in order to attend a course in central Cardiff. I couldn't have timed it better! My search came up with a double room at the Travelodge at Atlantic Wharf for £15! Yes £15!!!!!! I wasn't looking for anything special, just a basic room for the night so I didn't want to pay over the odds. Prior to this quotes for most establishments where averaging about £60- £70 at the very least so when I saw the offer I thought it was a mistake!
It wasn't, it was just that Travelodge are offering a "sale" for a limited period of a month or so following the festive break.
The room was perfectly acceptable and apart from a few marks on the carpet which had clearly seen better days and few scuff marks on the walls the decor was surprisingly pleasant. Let's face it, it was never going to be The Ritz and it could never be described as "plush but I was genuinely pleased at how clean and well presented it was. Clean and fresh bedding, clean bath/shower unit. I had to remind myself that I was only paying £15 and almost felt a little guilty!!
The TV had a smallish screen which offered all the terrestrial channels plus a few freeview channels but surpisingly not all of them! All staff were pleasant and helpful. A pleasant stay with a nice satisfying feeling of having had a bit of a bargain. Upon arrival I decided to order breakfast for the following morning and I thought this was fair for the pice of £7.65 or something like that for which you could eat as much as you liked!
I just don't know how they make any profit going by the prices they were offering and I will certainly use Travelodge again even if it meant paying more "normal" fees ! Car parking is good. You have to take a ticket to enter the grounds which is validated by the hotel when you leave so you don't have to pay
One final word of warning! Be careful if you use SATNAV for directions. The hotel is in quite a large commercial complex and it brought me to the Capital FM building. I arrived at night and the hotel was not visible as it was hidden behind the building even though the hotel itself must be one of the biggest Travelodges I've ever seen! I went around driving for miles thinking the SATNAV was faulty!
