Website pics and description give a slightly false impression of what is basically an inn on the main through road to the village with a lovely bar area but a rather pricey restaurant menu. Could well have been outstanding but can't comment on the food as we spent half the amount further up the road. We've stayed in Wales and the Lakes many, many times and whilst the rooms were spotlessly clean they were entirely typical of a decent pub b & b, no more. The place was very well presented but both our twin rooms (Heron and Mallard) were showing signs of tiredness. The twin room single beds were also a bit small. Hardly 'rooms of excellence' following the refurbishment as described and perhaps a little expensive we thought. As a group of four walkers we ate elsewhere (White Hart) in the village for hearty pub food and just had a drink or two after walking back. The bar staff were excellent and very welcoming. Good range of local beers and lagers for southern softies. Excellent breakfast. There was a decent drying room for soggy walkers but aside from route tips from one of the bar staff you didn't get a feeling that this pub was really aimed at walkers - a real lack of enthusiasm from the staff (except as above) quite unlike many places we've stayed at before. Overall we left with a feeling of having stayed in pleasant pub accomodation with fine dining on offer at suitably steep prices. Might be just your thing but it missed the mark for us a bit.

We have just returned from a short break and we stayed at the Usk Inn for one night. This is one of the best and friendliest hotels we have ever stayed in, the food was out of this world and we wish the new owners every success in their new venture. Will definately be coming back next year for a longer stay.

This Inn is under new management since Feb, and the new owners are very nice, chatty and know how to run a hotel. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms although small (this is a traditional inn) were immaculate, the ensuite spotless it could not be faulted. The food was very very good, well presented and tasted as good as it looked. Breakfast was equally as good, but after a large meal the night before you could hardly do it justice(but we did have a good go). The owner worked non stop from six and was still going when we left the bar. It shows it is a good place to eat by the number of locals eating there, and from the conversations were regulars. So forget the other reviews as the new owners are doing a grand job, we hope to return soon.

I was quite suprised with the standard of the rooms considering the 4 star rating. I have stayed in many different types of accomadation both in the U.K and abroad and this would be rated 2 star at best, the rooms were small and very dated,but were clean, therefore it was very much over priced.
The restaurant food at the Inn was good, simple, but on the whole well done,however the chef clearly didn't do the breakfast shift because that was just well done,meaning burnt!
The ambience at the Inn was bizarre to say the least the hostess(I use the term loosely!) was a female version of Basil Fawlty she was aggresive,rude and incredibly unhelpful, and yet it is only fair to say the staff who worked for her were all lovely.
In conclusion get rid of Mrs fawlty, spend some money on the place(you charge enough for the rooms) and this could be quite a pleasant place to stay.
