“Good value for money - family room too basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We stayed at the Stables Lodge at the end of December with our two children (aged 9 and 11) in a family room. Admittedly the price was very reasonable (but without breakfast, which we paid for separately and had at the Royal Oak Hotel). The room was a bit outdated, but the main issue was that the sofa bed was very uncomfortable (and a lot of rubbish had collected under it). As a couple we would have probably been ok or even had the children been younger. One good thing is that there is a drying room where you can put all your wet waterproofs after walking out in the rain. Still had a lovely time, Betws-y-Coed is a very picturesque village with lots of great walks and things to see in the area.

“great place to stay!”

this is a great place to stay in the heart of betws-y-coed. it's not a flashy hotel, but not many of us want a flashy hotel when we're heading to snowdonia!... we save that for our city breaks! i certainly wouldn't class it as basic. it's got everything you need - free car parking, decent sized bedroom, nice and clean, great location, stables bar a few yards away (which does decent food and beer) and great value compared to other hotels on the main drag. what more could you ask for? i've read other reviews about the church bell keeping people awake - to be honest, i barely noticed it in the day and i don't think it chimes through the night anyway (contrary to other reviews). i would recommend this place to anyone looking for decent quality accommodation in a great location

Room Tip: If the church bell worries you, ask for a room furthest away (as it's at the end of the hotel bl...

“Great budget room!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Stayed for a night in September this year. The location of The Stables is great and the room was modern, spacious and clean. Although we had a little trouble initially checking in, we had a great stay on the whole. A busy bar is located below the rooms, but this didn't disturb out night sleep! The bar also serves fantastic pub-grub (much better than "The Grill" in the neighboring Royal Oak Hotel). Betws is a lovely little town with plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. We would definitely stay here again.

“Beautiful place”

Betws-y-Coed is a really idyllic place to stay. A lovely village atmosphere with plenty of practical shops as well as places to buy souvenirs and gifts. You can actually get there by train but I think a car is pretty essential if you want to visit local attractions like Swallow Falls, Mount Snowdon. We based ourselves there to do a Snowdon climb from Pen-y-Pass and it worked perfectly - though I'd recommend getting up early to get to P-y-P as the car park fills up quickly and we ended up walking 45 minutes each way just to get from our car to the gate - and then gone a parking ticket for being slightly on the road even though there were no signs.

Our room at Stables Lodge was a good size and everything was very clean, relatively new and serviced daily. It's annexed to the Royal Oak Hotel which has a fine dining restaurant (which we didn't use) and a pub. The pub was really buzzing and busy with hotel guests and other visitors pretty much all day. But, even though it was so busy, we didn't ever have to wait long to be served or to get our meals.

The atmosphere at this hotel and all around the town was lovely. Will definitely visit again and see more of the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the car park at the back so you don't get too much noise from the pub at n...
