We popped in for lunch and both went for the afternoon tea. It was Excellent! About £9 each got us a big pot of tea, lovely smoked salmon sandwiches, homemade scone, and an assortment of cakes inc Bara Brith, Lemon and Banana. There was also a mini pavlova each. All decorated with fresh fruit. Service was attentive, fast and friendly.

I recently visited the Plas Derwen restaurant and would advise people away from it. If the restaurant service is anything to go by, I would rather sleep in the river than in the hotel. The waiter service was incredibly slow, we were served a wrong meal, which took an age to correct and no apology was given. In all it took well over 45 minutes to make a cheese toasted sandwich. The family opposite us weren't served their drinks until they reminded the waiter, who mistook their request for wanting their bill??? When I asked to speak to the manager about the service, he suggested that the reason for the food mistake was that it was written differently on the menu and so there had been no fault made, even though I was assured by the waiter beforehand that my sandwich would come without onion. He further said that the wait was due to 44 people ordering food at the same time, when on our side of the restaurant there were only 6 people. I asked for an apology and was refused one!!! The rudeness of the manager was completely shocking.

Not the best atmosphere but the best food. Can we have music in the restaurant? That would be perfect

We decided to go to Betws-y-Coed and Portmeirion for a couple of days and booked the place in advance. The lovely Pam and Dave received us at the Plas Derwen. We were even given a bit of history of the place when we had a scrumptious steak in the evening. The en-suite room had an excellent view, the place was very neat and tidy. The bed was extremely comfortable with very good linen. All-in-all an excellent experience. Even the breakfast was really good. We had an excellent trip and we would definitely go to the Plas Derwen again.
