Decided to go away for a last minute bank holiday break, and this was the only place we found vacant. I was slightly sceptical as to why it wasnt fully booked unlike the other b&bs in the area.. nevertheless, i booked it and am glad i did.
This is a nice place to stay, very clean and caters for all basic requirements i.e tea/coffee facility, towels, TV, ensuite etc. There is no parking at Plas Derwen, so we parked on a road by the church (a few minutes walk away), although there are a couple of other car parks (pay and dispaly) around 4-5 mins walk away.
The owner Pam was very friendly/talkative and helped us with directions to find Plas Derwen even though we arrived very late (around 9pm). Pam also makes a lovely breakfast, we had scrambled eggs which were really nice! Dave was professional but not very friendly.. :( We didn’t see them around much during our stay. I did request an ironing board one morning, it was brought up to the room, but it felt like I had asked too much!
Our room was nicely decorated, not fussy. It got a bit cold in the evening, but there is an oil-filled radiator you can use, which worked well. I have read many excellent reviews about the restaurant, and although i had full intention to dine at Plas Derwen, i never got the chance to! Bed was comfy and the bathroom was better than some other B&B's i have stayed at.
In case you havent been to Betws-y-coed before, most restaurants close around 9.30 - 10pm. Since we got there quite late on the first night, we had to get some fast food from Llanwrst (just over mile away) where there are a few take-aways open til midnight (chinese, indian, italian, fish'n'chips).
The main purpose of our trip was to visit Mount Snowdon, we took the mountain railway up, but decided to walk back down (took just under 2.5 hours but you dont have to be mega-fit to do this- as im not!! ) but worth it for the spectacular views! There are many walk/trails for cyclists and keen ramblers around betws-y-coed too, one of which leads to Swallow Falls which is beautiful. You can start this trail a few mins away from Plas Derwen (just ask the owners).
Betws-y-coed is a beautiful little villiage to which i would return and for a last minute find, I was happy/ satisfied with Plas Derwen but would only stay here again if some of the others were unavailable again!
