“Top notch B&B in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

What can I say - this B&B really does tick every box:

Beds - more comfortable than my own, lovely and soft without being saggy

Facilities - the bathroom and sink are pleasant and clean, there's the usual selection of tea etc.. with the kettle, as well as an iron & ironing board, hairdryer and trouser press. Although we weren't there for the TV, it actually had a surprisingly good quality picture.

Breakfasts - I can't really comment on the non-cooked option I'm afraid, since I couldn't resist the cooked breakfast every day I was there! You get to choose what makes up your plate and it really is tasty - some of the best scrambled egg I think I've had!

People - the couple that run this place are so friendly, chatting with you now and again (without being pushy) and giving advice about the area when you need it.

Location - very handy for Betwys-Y-Coed, which is less than 10 minutes walk away (complete with umbrella they lend you when it inevitably rains!) and the rest of Snowdonia.

View - the view from the window of room 5 was fantastic, it really was.

There were only a couple of minor points which took away from our stay - the door wasn't that snug a fit, so when the wind got up we had to jam a spare pillow under it to stop it rattling. Also the shower took a very long time to get up to temperature.

All in all though, I couldn't have asked for more and will definitely return.

Room Tip: If possible, rooms 5 & 6 give the best view over the valley

“Highly recommended.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

From the warm welcome, to the spotlessly clean comfortable room, to the bountiful breakfast and the generously shared local knowledge we would recommend Aberconwy House to anyone. The view from our bedroom window was fantastic, a peaceful location with all the benefits of Betws-y-Coed less than 10 minutes walk away. Stuart was a fount of local knowledge, with advice on everything from local restaurants, to local mechanics, and the best route up Moel Siabod.

Room Tip: Book a room with a view, it's too good to miss.

“Pleasant stay, great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Was a nice enough stay here for a couple of nights. Great view from the room. Room was a little dated albeit clean. As per some of the earlier posts, the breakfast was great but only served between 8.30-9am and maybe I fancied a bit more of a lie in! Otherwise, pretty much on par for decent B&Bs in Betws.

“Our favourite retreat!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

We stayed at Aberconwy House for the first time 4 years ago with other members of our family and we all loved it. My partner and I have been twice since then and have enjoyed the experience so much that not only did the proposal take place at Snowdon (while staying at Aberconwy House) but we have decided to get married in the area.
Stuart and Emma are extremely welcoming and have been really helpful in offering advice about local venues for our wedding. They really care about their customers and take the time to chat to you over breakfast about your plans while visiting the area thus enabling them to provide you with additional information to help make your stay as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible.
Beds are extremely comfortable with good quality linen and stylish accessories. Room 6 is our favourite room, it has a 4 poster bed, large bathroom and the most spectacular view whether it is sunny or dull, day or night, we could sit and stare at it forever! Everything is very clean and it is great to return to an immaculate room that has been restocked with drinks and biscuits after a day out walking, sightseeing or shopping!
The owners and the additional staff could not be more helpful, the breakfasts are to a very high standard with a good choice (the scrambled egg and smoked salmon is particularly tasty) and there is always the offer of more fruit juice, tea, coffee and toast. It never feels rushed and we always feel completely looked after.
We took my parents with us this time as well as my partner's, and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing time.
We will be back soon (more so as we plan our wedding) and for many years to come.
Thank you!!!

Room Tip: Room 6 is well worth the extra cost particularly if you prefer a more spacious bathroom.

“Nice B&B - but that's about it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

We stayed here in August during a mountain biking holiday and wanted to treat ourselves to a luxurious B&B for our last couple of nights in the UK. Aberconwy House is advertised as a 5 star B&B, awarded by Visit Wales. The location was nice and quiet, though a little like "B&B land" with all the properties in the area being B&Bs. The owner was lovely, let us keep our bikes in the garden shed. The room wasn't what I would call 'luxurious' though and, to be honest I was a little disappointed. It was very small, though very tastefully decorated, with no view. Maybe I had different expectations of luxury but I expected items such as toiletries, rather than the shampoo/shower gel to be in two large dispensers at the sink (too large for the shower). There was tea/coffee etc, which was nice. Also, The Welcome Pack said they'd help with laundry/drying clothes etc. so, after biking, we carefully washed all our clothes and asked would it be possible to dry them somewhere? We were directed to a laundrette four miles away which wasn't exactly how we'd interpreted the Welcome Pack!

It was nice, but not any more nice than other B&B's we've stayed in. The chocolate on the pillow and nice teas are pleasant but, for me, luxury is more about the room itself, the facilities on offer and how welcome you feel. Would I go back and stay there again? Probably not. The door to the room had a large gap between it and the floor, leaving us with a lot less privacy than we'd expected. Also, on holiday, it's all about relaxing. Breakfast here is served between 8.30 and 9am - a little draconian for my holiday tastes. It's a nice place but we couldn't shake off the feeling we were intruding in soemone's home. All in all, I'll take Visit Wales' star ratings with a pinch of salt from now on.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view - the one with no view is small!
