“I wouldn't think of going anywhere else.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I first found the Ty Gwyn about ten years ago just by picking it out of a list. I was looking for a place for a men's winter walking weekend. I've been taking teams of men every year since then, and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

The ambiance is wonderful, relaxed ... perfect after a day on the mountains. The food is exceptional. One of our number once suggested we go to a nearby hotel run by a friend of his, where he could arrange a discount. I've looked in on that place for a cuppa and found it acceptable (?) but with nothing of the charm and atmosphere of the Ty Gwyn. I want to book into a place I really enjoy going to. I want to look back on a weekend where the hotel was as great a feature as the mountains. I'll go for the Ty Gwyn, with Martin, Celine and their team, every time.

“Stunning Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Had a short stay at the ty gwyn and couldnt fault the room and the hotel itself it was lovely and very charming...... However saying this i think the staff arent very welcoming we did not even recieve a good morning even though the lady was sitting on the desk and though a beautiful restaurant serving a lovely evening meal breakfast was very disapointing......

Room Tip: Room 1 though not a en-suite is beautiful for the money

“Fantastic find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Have just returned from a 3 night stay at Ty Gwyn and it was a wonderful weekend. The food, accommodation, and service was 5 star. Even though we were in one of the smaller rooms, it was really comfy and the decor was lovely. So glad we've found this little gem in a spectacular part of north Wales. Will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: I would be happy to stay in any of the rooms, even the smallest was great.

“A Romantic Night”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

My girlfriend and I had a most enjoyable stay at the Ty Gwyn. We hadn't been to this part of the world before and didn't know what to expect. However, we were given a good welcome and shown to our room very quickly, in fact much earlier than advertised. Nothing seemed to too much trouble for the young staff.

We had booked room 14 online before we arrived and discovered it was just as we expected. The bonus for us was that it was tucked away at one end of the delightful and full of character coaching inn. This made it all the more private for us and we adored the little sitting room area with comfortable sofa.

Dinner was just right and at a reasonable price with excellent service. Breakfast was extremely generous and prompt.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, particularly if you are a couple looking for a romantic getaway in a beautiful part of Wales and wish to be slightly off from the main hub of Betws-y-coed. Within its price bracket it was excellent value, obviously its not a corporate style experience and for me that was its charm.

“second visit disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

My first visit here was excellent, but standards may have slipped. The place is still very lovely and cosy but the breakfast staff were curt and made us feel bad for being late to breakfast. The building was cold (it was late December, but even so) and the creaking of the floor from upstairs seems to have got deafening. A newly installed fire alarm rang out at midnight and although the owner was lovely and apologised, it did marr our evening somewhat.

This is still a great place in a great spot, but places like this need to keep standards tip top if they want us to return...
