“Fading beauty offers excellent value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This hotel must have peaked in terms of refurbishment about 30 years ago, but it still offers a very pleasant experience in the beautiful Vale of Llangollen. The winter offer of B&B for £10 pp if you eat the £25 dinner (ie £70 D, B & B for 2) is excellent value for money, but £25 for dinner would not by itself represent value.
The hotel is warm, clean and comfortable. Restaurant food fresh and compotently cooked
Saw in the local paper that the hotel is up for sale - if the new owners invest in refurbishment the hotel could warrant higher ratings.

“Nice hotel, beautiful grounds, average breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Rooms on the small side, we were in the eves - nice bathroom with roll top bath.
Hotel is about a 5 minute drive to town.. so cannot have a drink unless you get a cab back. Grounds are beautiful with lovely walks.
Breakfast ok but nothing special - serving staff a little snooty.
Stay at the whitewater hotel instead - much nicer with more facilities and a 5 minute walk to town.

“Excellent Wedding Venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We were more than a little apprehensive when our daughter and her fiance chose to have her wedding 150 miles from home but we need not have worried. Arrangements were made with their very professional organiser Sandra, and the staff on the day delivered the goods in an efficient but unobtrusive way. We had rooms booked either side of the stay and so enjoyed walks along the canal, beautiful views, with food and service of a high standard. A wedding can be a stressful time but Sandra, Patrick and the rest of the staff took the strain while we had a thoroughly enjoyable family occasion. Well done!

“Absolutely Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Recently booked into The Bryn Howel (Jan 2012) with my husband for the Winter Half board offer and we couldn't have chosen a more perfect hotel and location!
I loved the fact that the hotel is so full of character with beautiful gardens and surroundings. All of the staff were very warm and welcoming and offered a friendly service that you just don't seem to get anymore. The room was basic but felt very cosy, clean, spacious and very warm (it was below freezing outside) with the most beautiful views! The area around the hotel is perfect for nice walks and being right on the canal you can take as short or long a walk you like! We booked online & the offer included full use of the spa facilities in their sister hotel The Wild Pheasant but unfortunately when we enquired at check in we were told they had a problem with the water so the spa was closed. We did however have a large jacuzzi-bath in the on-suite so made full use of that instead which completely made up for not being able to use the spa!
The 3 course evening meal was amazing, very good, home cooked, quality food. There was a good choice on the menu and the service was excellent. The breakfast the following morning was just as enjoyable, with a choice of hot & cold food and piping hot plates.
Everyone has a different standard of opinion when it comes to hotels and depending on the nature or reason for the stay, for me the Bryn Howel is the ideal place if you're looking for a relaxed, chilled-out, romantic experience.
I'd love to stay at this hotel again in a different season to experience the full beauty of the surroundings.

“Great stay in beautiful surroundings!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

I stayed there for two nights in December 2011 for a friend's wedding. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and the views from the bedroom windows are superb.
The rooms are clean and well presented (possibly a little tired around the edges!) and are very spacious.
The breakfast in the mornings was excellent with a great buffet choice of both hot and cold foods. Everything tasted very fresh and was a great start to the day.
The staff at the hotel were all extremely friendly and on our second night it was great to be offered free portions of the sticky toffee Pudding that had been served at the wedding the previous night. We also ate in the bar area and the food was again delicious.
I strongly recommend taking a stroll along the canal into the town centre of Llangollen - incredibly beautiful with its train station that looks like something from Harry potter and rolling welsh hills in the distance.
A great base to set off for walking the hills - or, like we did, a short walk to the pub!
