Recently booked into The Bryn Howel (Jan 2012) with my husband for the Winter Half board offer and we couldn't have chosen a more perfect hotel and location!
I loved the fact that the hotel is so full of character with beautiful gardens and surroundings. All of the staff were very warm and welcoming and offered a friendly service that you just don't seem to get anymore. The room was basic but felt very cosy, clean, spacious and very warm (it was below freezing outside) with the most beautiful views! The area around the hotel is perfect for nice walks and being right on the canal you can take as short or long a walk you like! We booked online & the offer included full use of the spa facilities in their sister hotel The Wild Pheasant but unfortunately when we enquired at check in we were told they had a problem with the water so the spa was closed. We did however have a large jacuzzi-bath in the on-suite so made full use of that instead which completely made up for not being able to use the spa!
The 3 course evening meal was amazing, very good, home cooked, quality food. There was a good choice on the menu and the service was excellent. The breakfast the following morning was just as enjoyable, with a choice of hot & cold food and piping hot plates.
Everyone has a different standard of opinion when it comes to hotels and depending on the nature or reason for the stay, for me the Bryn Howel is the ideal place if you're looking for a relaxed, chilled-out, romantic experience.
I'd love to stay at this hotel again in a different season to experience the full beauty of the surroundings.
