“Superb staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We originally booked into this hotel for a two night break in a standard room but after reading mixed reviews we enquired about upgrading - Jasmine was fantastic in helping us to upgrade and the room was phenomenal (New part of hotel as opposed to older side) - Jasmine & her manager were indicative of the standard of service from the staff @ the hotel restaurant & bar. They were all exceptional in their Customer focus. The breakfast & lunches were tasty & good value - our only gripe about food would be the steak we had for our evening meal was tough, full of gristle and not in keeping with the other food items we had enjoyed - other than that I strongly recommend this hotel if only for the special team that look after you. They are a credit to the Manager and owners. Great break - thank you.

Room Tip: When you read negative comments it seems most of these originate in folk staying in the "old pa...

“great overnight stay”

just got back from a splendid evening stay at this wonderful hotel, the staff were all very polite and welcoming and the facillities were spot on, we stayed in a superior room in the newish side of the hotel, the room was cosily warm without being too hot, although outside it was freezing cold and wet this room was lovely and warm, the bathroom was nice with under floor heating and hot towels were available from a heated towel rail, we opted for some bar food, very hearty for a snack, fresh chips, a mountain of galic bread and a mansize bowl of onion rings, a pint and a an archers an lemonade for £16, very good value, we'll be back for sure, the spa was also amazing, nothin better than sittin in a hot tub listening to the rain outside.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the newer part of the hotel.

“This will be the last time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

This could to a great hotel but it is not. Virtually all the staff are rude, do not care about their customers and are not approachable. The bar has a limited selection of drinks, the evening meal selection is limited and the rooms and other facilities are showing signs of neglect or disrepair. Not all of the spa / hydrotherapy stations were working which is why most people go there, don't say anything to the Spa staff though as "it's nothing to do with us, see reception"

Room Tip: Go to another hotel but if you must stay demand the "new wing"

“Few frills but a very substantial Christmas Cracker!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

A late booking for the Christmas period is always a matter of 'fingers crossed and hope for the best' or 'just look on the bright side, relax and enjoy' - my husband booked this at short notice and we arrived on Christmas Day for a couple of nights, our original plans to stay on the South Coast changed at the eleventh hour. First impression was reception and the receptionist could not have been more helpful or indeed pleasant. Due to our late arrival and time booked for lunch after a quick change and drink we went in to dine. The atmosphere was warm, cordial and cheery and the staff though certainly worked off their feet were smart, courteous and full of Christmas Spirit. Tables were pleasantly dressed and the food was nicely prepared and quite delicious. The meal was certainly good value for money and the hotel had a reasonable selection of wines at very fair prices.

Our room was in the old part of the hotel, again due to late booking, and the view was not really worthy of comment but to be fair - a view looking straight on to the hillside at ground level is always going to be restricted. Overall the hotel has a very pleasant and light aspect. Certainly room was clean and spacious but the bathroom was very dated and plumbing rather noisy. The rate for the room, however, was very reasonable indeed and I am sure that the more modern rooms reflect the refurbishment which I believe has taken place in part of the hotel.

My husband used the spa on a couple of occasions and found it very acceptable . The reception areas and terrace are light and welcoming and I certainly think the staff and ambience of the place make up for the cosmetic short falls. This hotel is well worth visiting and I really hope the owners decide to attend to all the worn and dreary aspects of decor and facilities as this place could so easily sparkle all the year round.

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room in the refurbished section if worn taps and noisy plumbing irritate.
