I travel to north Wales a lot and tried the Castlebank because of all the positive reviews. I really was surprised and disappointed to find myself in a pretty typical guest house. The owners are charming but several things, not least their heating system rather let them down - no central heating in my room, just an elderly and noisy fan heater of some sort. The building seemed a bit dated (horrible floral carpets) and cluttered with far too many knick knacks of dubious style and quality. I think a good clear out and then a simple uncluttered presentation of the rooms would make for a far more restful stay. My room had a microscopic bathroom (with central heating!) but the shower was not working - when I reported this I was gently told that I should have mentioned this before, though I did rather feel that the owners might have checked their rooms were functioning before putting people in them.
Perfectly decent basic breakfast with friendly service.
I don't recognise the place getting rave reviews.

Know Conwy well but had not stayed at Castlebank before - but we'll be going back. A really quiet - yet central - location. Ours was a large room with everything you could wish for - clean, comfortable and relaxing. The lounge and dining room were welcoming and used by guests - - so often they aren't. Great breakfast. All in all a wonderful privately owned hotel where the owners clearly work hard to keep up a high standard.

Very beautiful hotel, cosy 'home like' rooms, vfery small but clean bathroom, VERY friendly host and hostess. Really, very charming and friendly!!!

My partner and I love this hotel. We first stayed on recommendation from close friends and it did not disappoint. This October was our second stay and we have already booked our third.

The hotel is just fabulous. The breakfast is ideal, you can order exactly what you want so no leftovers (or from the point of view of my husband, you can pick as much as you want). The hotel will also provide evening meals, but book early as word must have got around as to how great it is. The atmosphere at the hotel is warm and friendly with excellent hosts. Our room was spotless and got cleaned again on our second morning! Lovely.

If all that wasn't enough the parking is even free and the hotel is within walking distance of the town. Perfect, can't wait to stay again next year.
