“What a find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

I went to Pentre Court with a friend and my dog to celebrate a birthday and to chill out. The welcome was warm, the room comfortable and well equipped, excellent beds. Then we found the garden, and what a joy that was. After a swim in the heated pool and a stroll round the garden, we sat on the terrace drinking wine (our own, but glasses were provided ) under the wysteria with a view of the hills and barely a sound from the main road. We slept like tops and breakfast was beautiful and freshly cooked.Lots of helpful info in the room folder and even more from the owners. We plan to return as our stay was too short.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the house are quiet and have the best views.

“Not a Travel Lodge...........thankfully!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2011

I have read the 7 reviews above and can understand some of the complaints/comments. It is a little tired, it is on the A40 and if you're a light sleeper and your bedroom is on that side then it might be a problem, it's certainly cluttered and the shower took some careful adjusting to get temperature right............BUT, it's ENORMOUSLY CHARMING, as were the owners, my bed was very comfortable and the breakfasts delicious!
If it's faults were all rectified, as sadly they no doubt will be one day when it's taken over by a chain, you'd be paying three times the amount to stay there and be served by an anonymous employee in a nylon bowtie with no knowledge of the area.

Room Tip: Remember, the contented rarely bother to review!

“Lovely view and excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

Pentre Court is great place to stay if you're walking in the Brecon Beacons or Black Mountains - and our small dog was also welcome. The room was spacious with a stunning view, en suite bathroom and television. The cooked breakfast was entirely made of local or homemade produce. Just a ten minute drive from Abergavenny's Michelin-starred Walnut Tree Restautant. All in all excellent value for money.

“Take away the clutter, give it a clean, a lick of paint and it would be fab”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2010

Our stay at Pentre Court was somewhat marred by the flithy bathroom which lacked any heat..and it was February when we stayed! The plughole was full of hair, the tiles were covered with mould and the loo seat broken. When we pulled our towels off the radiator in the bedroom they were coated in thick cobwebs. It was a shame as the proprietor was most welcoming and helpful in giving us information on the local area. Breakfast wasn't bad, although we learnt to check our glasses for cleanliness.
The bed was very squeaky but comfy and we would have slept in longer if it hadn't been for the early rising grandchildren running round the house.
It was a shame as we were really wanting a place to stay where we felt we could relax and I could have some long leisurely baths.

“Cosy mess”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2009

if clean and tidy is your thing, this might not be the best place for you. The house is lovely situated outside the village of Abergavenny and at the edge of Brecon Beacons National Park. The views are just amazing. The house is very charming, but is in need for a lot of redecoration. One clear example are the windows in our room that were fixed with some tape and the shower did not produce hot water at times. Rooms are very spacious. Very positive are the garden and the swimming pool. Some of the public rooms in the house are stacked with things.
