“oasis in the Beacons”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

A friend and I walked the first few days of the Beacons Way and booked into the Half Moon Inn to stay after our first day of walking. It was comfortable, friendly, warm and cosy. The staff were all lovely and the food was delicious. In the morning we had a fantastic breakfast overlooking a beautiful garden before carrying on with our adventure. A real gem!

“Friendly comfortable pub with excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Stayed here for one night in november 2011
George and his staff are very friendly as are all the locals.
Pub mainly used as a base for walkers and pony trekkers.
I stayed with my daughter and had a very comfortable stay.
Beds were very comfortable.
Room had tea making facilities and clean towels with a sink and were very clean.
Rooms are not ensuite but there are three toilets and three showers which are adequate.
We normally only have ensuite but was not a problem at this pub.
I think about eight rooms in total (guess)
Television downstairs in breakfast room only.
Dog friendly pub with open fire.
Breakfast was superb with orange juice, cereals, fruit, and full breakfast.
Bar meals available which are excellent .
Mobiles tend not to work in the valley and no broadband yet..
We will be returning again for horse riding again at Trevelog and will be staying here again.
If you are one of life"s want five star hotel for two star price go elsewhere.
However if you want a comfortable nights sleep, super food, fantastic hosts then stay here.
We paid £50 for bed and breakfast for two.
Super pub, Thanks George and staff

“Unpretentious but good value”

For good value simple accommodation in an amazingly quiet location the Half Moon would be hard to beat. Situated close to the impressive ruins of Llanthony Abbey and miles from the nearest towns (Abergavenny, Hay on Wye) the inn is an excellent base for walkers, particularly the nearby Offa's Dyke path.

The rooms are clean, comfortable and simply furnished, though not en-suite, but at £30 a night who's complaining ! The breakfast is substantial, and there is a good choice of evening meals, also of generous proportions, in the bar.

If you are planning on going out after nightful, take a torch - is it very, very dark !

“Friendly Inn, Beautiful Valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

The Half Moon is plain, not fancy. And that's by design. This rustic inn provides clean and simple shared-bath facilities that fill the bill nicely for folks hiking or horse treking the gorgeous countryside. On our two day visit, host George was a real prince. He picked us up at the Skirrid Inn (we didn't have a car), let us wash some muddy clothes, and was always quick with helpful advice on everything from local hikes to bird watching. He also cooks up some fine, homemade grub in mammoth proportions. Be sure and visit the convivial, dog-friendly pub as well. The Moon was just what we were looking for in a homespun country inn.
