I booked this hotel having been told that this was one of the better hotels in Aber and having booked my guests into it in the past. I am now embarrassed about this. We booked a double room for two nights and arrived to discover no lift, so we lugged two large suitcases up several flights of stairs without assistance, or any offer of same, to a room which was so small we could not open the suitcases, unless they were on the bed, The 'double' room contained only one chair, and a table which was angled into the corner and it was just possible to slide past it to the other side of the bed. the bathroom was a cubicle boxed off from the room, in which there was a toilet, a tiny washand basin and a shower, the available floor space was about two and a half foot square. It was January and the radiator was turned off, so I furned it on, as it was rather chilly. We went out shortly thereafter, and returned later. At around three o;clock in the morning I awoke as if in a sauna, and realised that the heat was too much, so turned it down by about 75 per cent. It made not a bit of difference. Either the heat is on, and it is a sauna, or it is off, irrespective of season. We were told that breakfast was until 9.30 so we arrived at 9am to a breakfast room which had been stripped of buffet foods. I should explain that we were arriving from teh USA and were somewhat jet lagged. In fairness, they produced breakfast, but it felt like a favour. Cigarette smoke was detectable on the ground floor, as we entered the breakfast room, I assume one of the kitchen staff smokes on or near the premises. There is no parking at this hotel, and Aber is a nightmare to park in, although this time there were no traffic wardens working so we could find a parking space, but this is not the usual situation. I am afraid that if I was to have to stay in Aber again, I would not stay in the Belgrave, there are many better B&bs for a lot less money.
