“Spacious and Grand”

We stayed at the Abbey Hotel just for Saturday night to coincide with a trip to the Festival Theatre. From the view of the creeper covered front to the massive staircase everything is traditional and grand. We asked for a high floor room at the back overlooking the vale as suggested by another reviewer and our request was catered for without a problem. We pre-booked a set meal ( but with three choices ) for a very reasonable price and everything was very good, well presented and hot, if there is a criticism it was that there were not many vegetables. The service was superb. The breakfast was as grand as the hotel, it was buffet style and simply everything was there, again the service was first class with the used dishes being removed between every plateful. We were worried that we might not be able to park but the private car park is on a huge scale and there were no problems. Our room ,407,was very comfortable and warm ( on a snowy night in February ) with lovely views of the vale and the side of the Abbey. Dinner was served starting at 6pm which was great to fit in with the theatre performance and even on a cold snowy night the Theatre was only a five minute walk away. All our requests were met without question, including reserving a window table for dinner. We will stay again.

Room Tip: The Vale view from a high floor room at the back was very good. The Abbey bells could be heard but...

“Excellent experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Booked this hotel through hotelshopUK and took their Body & Sole Relaxation Break. Stayed 2 nights from 4th Feb and just got to the hotel before the snow came down. Our room was an upgraded one and the decor was smart and tasteful. The bed was comfortable and the room and hotel itself spotlessly clean. We found the staff very helpful and the food was of a very good standard. The only downside to our stay was that we could only stop 2 nights but we will definitely return again.

“A very pleasant stay at the Abbey!”

We stayed at the Abbey Hotel from Friday afternoon and left Sunday morning. This hotel is cosy, warm and comfortable. There are numerous Public rooms which are very comfortable and cosy. The food was good and plenty of it. Our room was clean, tidy - only one thing to report was finding the dust on our suitbag that had been placed on the top of the Wardrobe. We suggest that all wardrobes in the Hotel should be dusted by taller persons as it should not be left to the bedroom staff to try and reach that area if they are petite, which our room person was. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very warm, clean and cosy too. We will return.
