“Great location but rather over-priced.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I have stayed and eaten at this hotel three times over the past two years, twice for family occassions and once as a couple.
The hotel is always busy particularly at lunchtime when it's location makes it the ideal place for a bite to eat whilst walking the hills.
The rooms are clean and comfortable but the ones at the front can be noisy during the early morning traffic. The staff have, with one exception, been personable especially the breakfast staff.
The food is ok but over-priced for the standard which is on a par with good pub grub.
Overall I think that it is overpriced due to it's monopoly but fine for a one night stay whilst discovering the beautiful Malvern Hills and surrounding area.

Room Tip: Go for one of the rooms at the back.

“Great location, hotel and food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We have Just had a 2 night stay in between Xmas and new year, we found the hotel to be very clean, lovely bathroom, room cosy and the food was superb, the service was excellent and management very accommodating. The breakfasts were cooked to order, hot and tasty. All in all, a good stay.

“Great hotel at even better value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

I stay here with business around twice per month. Great service, superb gastro pub food with local beverages, including ciders and real ales. Clean spacious rooms, comfy beds. Free wifi a bonus, but signal strength and reliability is poor - heavily room dependent.

Great value room rates in a great walking area. 10 mins drive to Ledbury or Malvern.

Fully recommended for business or travellers.

“Avoid Room 104 if sleep is a priority”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

We spent a sleepless night at The Malvern Hills Hotel in Room 104. There were two major problems, heat and noise.

The room was swelteringly hot (in mid November) with no control over the radiator. As a result we had to have the window wide open but directly below it there were two very noisy chiller units for the bar. The chiller fans were on for a minute, off for five minutes right throughout the night. Each time you started dropping off to sleep the fans came on again.

On raising the matter with the receptionist and then the (young and inexperienced?) owner the following morning neither one of them saw fit to apologise. Their response was to give excuses that the bar needed chiller units and that none of the radiators had individual controls - the whole system was either on or off.

Had either one of them apologised I wouldn't have seen fit to write this review.

It is a real shame as their dealing with the matter tainted an otherwise perfect stay.

The rooms were attractive, had comfortable if slightly bouncy beds, the bathrooms were spacious and stylish with generous fluffy towels. Everything was spotless.

In the bar the food was excellent and the serving staff were efficient, friendly and attentive.

If only they would sort out the noise from the chiller unit, fit individual controls on the bedroom radiators and send the senior management team on a customer service course they would be close to perfection.

Room Tip: Refuse room 104

“Incredibly rude service”

I've never written a review about a hotel on the internet before, but after the experience I had here recently I felt I had to. We've been coming here for several years but after our last visit we won't be coming back. We don't have children but were absolutely shocked at the rudeness of one of the bar staff towards some of the people who did. None of the young kids in there were making anything near a racket but when the father of one of the children approached the bar to order some drinks he was asked, in reference to his toddler son, 'Could you turn that foghorn down, mate?' The barman then continued to treat him with what I can only describe as the sort of manners you would not expect from somewhere of this supposed quality, until he and his family left.

You would think that with a recession on, any business like this would do its utmost to make people want to return to it. Unfortunately, that's the last thing we feel like doing. What a waste of a great location.
