“It was 'ok'. definately not 4* as advertised”

Decided to treat the hubby to a suprise night away. Spent a while searching local hotels and this seemed the best deal. Upgraded to "Superior Double Room" which stated that had "luxury large king size bed, with jacuzzi bath and beautiful views overlooking river Avon."
place was easy to find, nice driveway, and easy to find reception. They were having decorating work done in the lobby, which, was a bit off-putting but tried to ignore it. The guy at reception (who was wearing tracksuit), didnt know about our reservation but took us to a room anyway. I knew it was wrong as soon as walked in as was tiny! So, the guy took us back to reception and we waited while he went off somewhere. He then took us to the 'Romance Spa Suite'. First impressions weren't great, as was freezing in there and just not what i expected: Jacuzzi bath was small and really noisy, TV only had 5 channels and fuzzy at that, wifi was temperamental and you could just about see the river! but after it warmed up a bit, I accepted it was no 'bog standard' travelodge and had a bit of character.
We decided not to eat there for tea as there was no atmosphere there at all, so went down to a nice pub restaurant instead. Room was nice and quiet so had a good nights sleep. we opted for lie-in rather than breakfast so can't comment on that.
it was 'ok' but i was a bit disappointed as was advertised as 4*, but i've stayed in better 3*s. glad i didnt pay the full price as would definately not have been wroth it. won't recommend it but we had a nice break anyway.

“Nice room and location - staff very unorganised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

After reading some of the reviews on this website we were a little dubious about the hotel, t overall we did have a pleasant stay. Upon arrival we were impressed by the riverside location and immediately noticed te nice outdoor decking area. It was a shame it raned for our entire stay because it would have been lovely to sit outside and take in the views. At reception things were very unorganised, they had no knowledge of our booking and it took us 20 minutes to be shown to our room. I had asked for a room with views of the river, but we didnt get this. However, the room we were given was so lovely we didnt mind a bit. We were put in the romance spa suite and it was very comfortable - spread out over 2 floors with an outside terrace leading to te river and upstairs a jacuzzi bath as well as a large LCD TV and tea and coffee facilities. The room was clean and nicely decorated, although could do with a little updating in some areas as there was some brokn furniture. The bed was large and comfortable and very clean, made up wth nice sheets and pillows. The room was very cosy and we were very happy.
The evening meal was the Valentines special priced at £35 per head. We opted out ofeating at the hotel as we thought this was a bit steep, so we drove into Evesham town centre and founda nice pub to have dinner in at a fraction of the price of the Hotel.
We heard no noise throughout our night and had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and it was very good - full englis breakfast incuding orange juice, tea, coffe and toast. There were also cereals available. The only downside as that no one came out to serve us and we had to knock on the kitchen door to get some service.
At checkout, which is 11am, they once again failed to have a record of us, and the guy behind the desk even asked us how much we were expecting to pay - as he didn't know!

Overal we were happy with our stay - especially since it was only £49 for the oom and breakfast. Dont expect a sleek, immaculate city hotel, this is is famil run and has a cosy cottage feel. A little disorganised, but we would go back.

“Friendly, enjoyable, nostalgic and super staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

If you want all mod cons and shiny plastic fronted furniture and staff ,this is not the place for you. If you want a friendly ,well run, comfortable, tidy, nostalgic, maybe chic hotel with excellent food, this is the place for you, a home from home except your pampered by caring staff, nothing is to much trouble.
I would agree that some rooms may need a bit more T.L.C. although there is nothing specific that I could mention and it does add to the general feeling of a retro type hotel to which I think it would be ideally suited, in fact if Poirot walked into the bar nobody would raise an eyebrow (maybe a dry martini, but not an eyebrow)
A perfect place for a party, wedding or any other event where high standards of cuisine are required with the knowledge that everything would run smoothly and a good time would be had by all..
Try it you won't be disappointed.

“Absolutely brilliant!”

As I had been working away from home for a few weeks and had stayed in varying levels of hotels ranging from ok to awful, The Riverside Hotel turned out to be a breath of fresh air. On arrival my colleague and I were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and she couldn't of been more helpful.
The hotel has a very friendly relaxed atmosphere about it, rooms were spacious and clean, the food in the restaurant was outstanding and the bar has a wide selection of drinks.
I hate working away from home, but staying at this hotel took the edge off, at the end of the working day it was great to get back to the hotel, have a few drinks, a lovely meal and be looked after by the friendly staff.
I would highly recommend The Riverside Hotel and will definately be going back.
