We chose this hotel for it's perfect location and that was definitely the best aspect. Our riverside room had a balcony and excellent view of the river and bridge. Despite booking well ahead, the limited parking was already taken and we had to park in the train station car park. General impresion of the public areas of the hotel were that it was overdue for refurbishment. Damage on internal doors and chipped paintwork. Room size was small. Furniture was drab. Double bed was the minimum 4'6" width. Mattress was impossibly hard and provided the most uncomfortable night's sleep ever. Pillows were also solid and unyielding. Room was too warm but fitted with aircon. Bathroom was tired looking and the electric towel rail had wires on show. The shower was weak and the controls were damaged. Nice touch was the cushions and umbrella provided for the balcony furniture. Limited cooked breakfast choices but the quality of the full English was of a good standard. Nice views of the river from the restaurant.

Stayed here for a business function, and have to say that the reception, restaurant and public areas on the ground floor were all very nice, however climb the spiral staircase and you are faced with a very thin and somewhat tired corridor, leading to my equally tired looking bedrooms, which was very small and dark.

Moulton Brown toiletries in the bathroom were a nice touch, but at these prices it is only what one should expect.

The SCW hotels main selling points have to be it's location and it's restaurant. A better location for the centre of Windsor you cant get, with the back of the hotel having an entrance onto the Thames, and the hotel itself in the shadow of the castle.

The food in the hotel restaurant was excellent and can be recommended.

One tip, make sure you book your parking in advance as there are limited spaces at the hotel.

Many thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback, which will be used constructively to improve our Hotel. Whilst we are aware that there is a need for investment in some areas, we do operate the Hotel to the standards expected with our Four Star status. We have refurbished a large proportion of our current facilities, and we have a plan in place with permissions to upgrade the rest of the property way beyond its current position; unfortunately the current financial crisis has caused some considerable delays to this.

Whilst your comments regarding are own parking are correct, and we book these in advance until full, we have identified all 8 Town Centre car parks on a parking map on our web site if you click on “Travel to Wrens”. Three of these car parks are within a 3-minute walk of the Hotel, and as we are located on a pedestrian street drop off of luggage is easy and something we can easily help with.

Thank you for your otherwise kind comments, which I will pass on to the relevant departments.

We booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary as our daughter had attended wedding reception previously and said it was really good. Maybe it was, and perhaps they put all their efforts into looking after wedding parties as opposed to other guests.
When we arrived we were kept waiting out in the street for 10-15 minutes until a porter came to take us to our room. We knew we had to park in BR car park but it wasn't straightforward to get tickets for 2 days - who has £10 in coins on them?
When I booked I was informed that there was a wedding taking place and there might be music going on in the hotel until 12 midnight. I said this was no problem. But of course we weren't located in the main hotel (we found out when we booked in), we went in to a door beside the wine shop and ended up some distance away. What we did not see or know about then was the nightclub right opposite! No-one warned us about loud music until 2am! When I phoned reception at 1.30 because I couldn't sleep and asked the manager to send the police round to whoever was making all the noise, I was just told "It's a nghtclub and It will finish at 2am" No apology or explanation. Then at 1.45 the fire alarm went off, rang for a couple of minutes, enough time for my husband to put on some clothes and go downstairs, not finding anything wrong, came back to the room - again I phoned reception and was told that someone had been smoking in their room and had set off the alarm - no apology.
We discovered in the morning that the outer window of the double glazed units was not fully shut and we could not have shut it, maybe that would have kept out all the noise.
We tried to make coffee in the morning at 8am - but it tasted disgusting! I dont know if the milk was off, it wasn't past its sell-by date but it was undrinkable - and I thought it wasn't worth asking for room service since we would be going down to breakfast in an hour. So no morning cup of coffee.
We had dinner and the food was really good. But at breakfast why was the toast so limp? It was the right colour but soft inside - must have been frozen and not cooked through properly.
Our room was very nice, flat screen TV worked well and seemingly all mod cons. Really good shower. So not all bad, but it wasn't quite the relaxing night we had been looking forward to.

As I was given my key I was told i would be taken to my room.

'That’s Ok - I'll find it' I said - well no I wouldn't have. With guide in toe we did a trip of Windsor before I got to my room - across the street and far away. Having parked 200 yards away having to walk yet again was a bit off. If I had a disability it would have been impossible.

I was in the annex with the window overlooked by an office block , literally feet way.(with more building going up around it)

The Location of the main House is lovely next tom the River and from other reviews it seems like the Annex have better rooms.

I didn’t see much off the Main House.

My room was small but modern, clean and the bathroom beautiful.

Overall poor value

Here at Sir Christopher Wren’s Hotel we do have a number of buildings that are separate from the main house, which we do display on our website. I apologise that in this instance this was not the right type of room for your requirements. For Guests with any disabilities we would allocate a room that would suit their requirements, as we are always DDA compliant.

We are sorry that your experience was not entirely a good one, and it is a shame that you did not give our team the chance to recover your problems at the time of your stay.

My partner and I stayed here in September and had such an awful visit it motivated me to leave my first Tripadvisor posting unfortunately. First they couldn't find our booking and made us wait over half an hour. There was a woeful lack of staff around to check customers in any case.
They then told me to park my car outside a train station and pay for the privilege for twenty four hours! We particularly decided on this hotel for the secure parking as i have had my car broken into before. They then showed us to our £160 a night room which was 250 metres from the hotel!! On a busy road with an entrance next to a newsagents and door that looked like it led to a bedsit in Tower Hamlets.
The hotel looked shabby but the room was spacious and clean. However it was very hot and the air con was broken (and must've been broken for some time as somebody had gone to the great lenghts to print a sticker to inform us of this inconvenience). We thought we would open the window for fresh air but the noise from the main road was intolerabe.
Add to this the beds made out of granite and it was truly established as my worst nights sleep ever( i once slept all night on a train station floor in France).
They have no sense of customer service (the manager certainly didn't but there was a helpful trainee called Johnny though).
Take my advice DO NOT STAY HERE!!
