“Surprised at Negative Reviews”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

person found this review helpful

Sitting here in the bar a I read some poor reviews which really surprised me. Checked in - receptionist really good, room, although small really nicely furnished. Maybe not A 4 star but a really good 3. Was a little concerned when I saw the photo but really no problems. Normally stay at the Christopher Wren, but service here better and car park far cheaper. Would stay again.

“Well satisfied!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I didn't spend much time in the hotel, but they were very accommodating to my early (before breakfast) departure.

The only downside to my visit was hauling the luggage up and down the narrow stairs.

“Location is good for seeing the town.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

The location is about 5 min’s walk from the main street, so not bad for visiting the town. There is limited parking so make sure you contact the hotel and book a parking place and it will cost you £12 per night.
The room I booked was a large double, I would hate to have booked a standard double, it must be very small as you could only just swing a cat in the large room.
The food in the evenings is passable, but I would walk into town for a nicer meal. The breakfast is good, with a nice full English if wanted.

Would I stay again, well I must say now as there are much nicer places to stay, but as in this case I booked at short notice and did not have much to pick from.

Room Tip: Make sure to book a car parking place if needed.

“dreadful”

Unless you are desperate, don't bother booking into this hotel.
It has the dreariest reception area, dining room and bar. The bedrooms are less than average and mine had a broken side light, broken air con, dirty carpet, only one hand towel between two of us, shocking dinner (took 55mins for a starter to arrive and when it did, it was inedible), £12 per night to park a car.

On the plus side, the staff were pleasant but the receptionist when we arrived had a stinking cold and sniffed constantly!

How the heck this hotel has 4 stars for the AA is beyond me.

Dear Guest.
Many thanks for your review on the trip advisor site. I would like to take this opportunity to clarify some of the issues raised by your comments.
The hotel underwent a complete ground floor refurbishment at the beginning of last year and indeed the overwhelming response of our guests are extremely positive – I can only assume that your dislike of the reception area is that of a personal nature.
I can only apologise if the allocated room was not up to standard however a room move would have been possible, and with all problem situations if we had known your dissatisfaction we would have done our upmost to rectify the situation
We pride ourselves to offer the cheapest car parking arrangement in Windsor (some hotels charge up to £20 per car per night) and therefore I can only suggest using public transport to avoid the car parking charge the next time.
I am very pleased to read that you found our staff very helpful and pleasant but unfortunately we cannot foresee the arrival of a common cold during the shift – I can only compliment the receptionist for trying his best on that particular day.
Yours sincerely
Philipp Weiss, General Manager

“Small rooms and no nearby parking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

I stayed here recently on business and was very disappointed with my double room. It was the smallest double I had stayed in and the bathroom was tiny also. If there had been two people staying it would have been impossible to move around the room. It was clean and the bed comfy however not enough plug sockets. I always use the desk and it was too high when using the chair, it needed a proper office chair or shorter desk. Looks like a refurb has taken place and the corporate image was evident throughout. There was no lift so don't turn down offer of help with luggage, you need it.
I ate dinner in the small restaurant which was very noisy due to a large party of diners.I ordered the steak and it was cooked perfectly and everything served well. Breakfast was not so good and no hot food was offered and no Marmite available.Staff appeared to be in a hurry to clear away.
The parking at the hotel has to be pre booked in advance, otherwise you have to go 20 minutes away to park. Not good in dark, with kids or as a lone traveller.
A quirky little place ideal for tourists. I would rather stay elsewhere where I can park outside even if it means more travelling.

Room Tip: Don't stay in annexe if you are alone. Ask for large room not near stairs or corridor fire doors...
