Guy on the desk,didn"t look like he wanted to be there!!!! Bar not open at all??? room was dirty and shabby,everything was out of date and gruubby!!! And to top the lot we had to bang the door at 8pm in the evening to get in as both keys did not work!!! Skip b/fast as could not stomach the place any longer?!!!

I stayed here for one night as my self and friends were going to a BBQ in the area with another friend. It cost £71 for the room with Full breakfast for 2 . The standard is described as 2* but I think in its present state it would not get that, the rooms are very basic with poor decor, woodchip wallpaper which is showing its age and poor quality bedding. Over all the room was fairly clean, but just 1970's in decor. The room (no.2) was on the ground floor overlooking the car park in front, none of the windows had net curtains or blinds therefore you had to keep the curtains closed the whole time and this included the toilet which had a window which looked into the foyer through clear glass, not quite as private as you would like, unless you a are bit of an exhorbisionist. Breakfast was average and again the decor of the restaraunt area was very tired. Overall I would not stay there again, had the price been £40 yes I would stay for one night, but for £70 go to a Travelodge

I spent a night at the Highclere Hotel and had a twin room. On arrival i asked the receptionist if they could accommodate a few more people in our room, she said this was not a problem and that we would be charged an extra £20.00 and would we like some extra mattresses. We agreed to this extra charge and then stated that we did not need any breakfast. The next day on check out, we found we had been charged for three breakfasts that we never had and when we left received a phone call from the manager stating that he was going to charge us an extra £69 for the extra occupancy. When we explained that the receptionist said it would only cost an extra £20 he claimed that she was new and spoke little English. He then withdrew £71 from my bank account with authorisation. I am currently pursuing this and will sue if needs be. It should not be the customers fault that the hotel leaves people in charge that cannot understand English!!! I would never recommend going back here unless you want to be charged over the odds!!!!!!!!!

This was our first night at a hotel in England. Everyone was very helpful and happily helped us when we had questions. The room was clean with a great shower that did not skimp on pressure. This really helped to wash away the airplane flight and massaged at the same time. The breakfast settings were also the cleanest out of the five hotels we stayed at on our vacation.
The bed was the comfiest out of the three hotels in this price range, and second comfiest only beaten by a hotel twice the cost.
Again, the people went out of their way to ensure we had a great visit. We would have liked to stay there the whole trip, but due to traveling distances it was not possible. The next time we visit the UK, we will stay here again.
