I stayed here for a few days at the end of summer. The B&B is a lovely 1930’s semi with available parking. Near to the centre, it is a 20 minute walk into town and is on the main bus route (although the busses proved unreliable). There are lots of scenic walks from the B&B and a look around Sarum Castle is recommended, with a local pub on the door step this makes Sarum Heights an ideal location.
The room was clean and tidy, bed comfy and tea making facilities were well stocked and available. Unfortunately we found the radiators were turned off in the bedroom which made for a few cold evenings especially after some rainy days out.
The breakfasts were the pinnacle of the stay, made with fresh, good quality local produce; the home made jams, bread and organic eggs being particularly nice.
Everything is freshly cooked to order and the quality was outstanding – no greasy truckers’ breakfast here. Breakfast was very “cosy”, with all the guests sat around a single six seat table. This isn’t so unexpected for a B&B with one small kitchen, and thankfully our fellow house-mates weren’t annoying so it wasn’t a problem. This is the one area where there isn’t much flexibility though – if you were looking for any privacy at breakfast or find you don’t like the other guests, you’re out of luck.
The owners were very friendly, pleasant and accommodating. I felt they were genuinely interested in their guests, offering help and give advice of the area and providing verbal information and have a good array of leaflets.
Minor faults I would highlight would be that the check in time is a little late being 4pm-8pm especially if you are paying for a full day. I certainly didn’t feel we had to be out of our room by a certain time but would have liked to have had breakfast a little later (especially on a Sunday) rather than having to fit in with the other guests and have a slot between 8-9.30am.
There was no communal sitting room (although there were two living rooms available). Maybe the owners could think of putting one aside for guests and making this a bigger dining/sitting room to break up the intensity of breakfast time and in doing so, keeping the smaller kitchen area for themselves for privacy.
Credit card is not accepted and I was not aware of this before visiting. This meant I had to withdraw a large amount of cash and carry this about with me. This should have been highlighted on the website or explained when booking the room.
So there a few minor gripes, but the owners are very approachable and understanding so if you were worried about any points raised I am sure they would be accommodating to your needs. The many plus points by far weigh out any negative points.
I have visited a lot of B&B’s and this is one of the best ones. I had a very enjoyable stay here and would definitely visit here again and recommend it to others.
Thanks for a lovely, friendly stay.
