“Mixed experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

I stopped here for 1 night while visiting some friends but had a mixed experience.
The good points:
Its set apart in a residential area with a secure care park(may be a bit of walk if you dont have a car though), the rooms were clean.
The bad:
I stopped in a twin room and the beds were a little too short (i'm average height). Perhaps this was an oversight as they didnt appear to have my booking information when I arrived.
Breakfast. It didnt exist
Myself and another guest found the breakfast hall deserted. In fact nobody was to be found, we found our breakfast orders pinned up in the empty kitchen. We would have complained but there was nobody to complain to so I just left a note saying I had checked out. Strange.
Hard to form too much of an opinion as whether this was a one off error or if it is just badly organised after only staying one night but I dont intend to return

“Quaint place hidden away in Salisbury.”

Well, mixed feelings here. The location is really beautiful, tucked away in a residential area of Salisbury. However, when we arrived in town, we called and were told to walk...not quite the right advice for towing luggage. We should have been advised to get a taxi, as it was a long haul uphill. We booked on hotels.com and thought we had an ensuite room, we found out that the room was not upon arrival. The actual rooms were very clean...the bathrooms were not, although they are cleaned daily. The staff was very nice and there are beautiful gardens. On site, free parking. Breakfast was traditional English and very good. I left something behind and called to have it mailed. 2 weeks later, I contacted the staff and they informed me that they lost it. Now that I've been there, I'd stay again...only this time call a taxi, make sure I book directly, and not leave anything behind! :)

“What a pleasant surprise!”

Had no idea what to expect at Alabare House, especially after learning that it is also a Christian retreat centre. However. although there are obvious signs of the Christian faith to be seen, this is also very much a warm and friendly B&B. After negotiating the unexpected gated entrance, we were greated by the tranquility of the place. The house is very well maintained, the rooms spotless and well equiped. The shower room offered a power shower, with ample hot water. Staff are friendly, and the atmosphere seems to encourage interaction between the guests who come from many different countries. Breakfast is a somewhat communal affair and very good. The Cathedral is little more than ten minutes walk and the town centre is even closer, so an ideal location. All-in-all a good find which offers all, and more, that the budget conscious traveller could require.

“Perfect”

We were 100% happy with our 2 night stay. Only 5 - 10 minutes walk into Salisbury but so quiet we felt we were in the countryside. Our room was very clean and spacious. Secure parking. Full English breakfast was perfect. Friendly helpful Staff. Shower Gel and Carex hand wash provided. Nice bedlinen and a comfy bed so we slept well. Should be 4 star

“Safe sleeping at the safe haven of the Christian Community of Alabaré”

The location isn't that great if you have heavy bags to carry around. It's quite a walk from the station. Still, when arriving there is a gate to get through before you reach the house itself. Are you driving there is plenty of parking space. Inside you might be met by the hens who lives in the garden. The room was spatious (but with an undefined odour of something) with an alocated bathroom down the hall. The breakfast was outstanding!
