Location good but the first room we were given was freezing - it transpired the plumbing had failed recently and been repaired. They obviously didn't think to check before putting guests in the room. To their credit they were very happy to move us to a different (and better) room with no problems or extra cost.
Both rooms were clean and tidy but suffered from peeling paint on the ceilings etc, small things that can make a large imression. On departure day we were advised that the advertised cooked breakfast was unavailable. On departure no partial refund was offered for this until it was requested as we'd been obliged to have breakfast away from the hotel. This was only begrugingly offered after i complained to a very unobliging and unproffesional receptionist.
This hotel has huge potential but is really in need of a visit from the hotel inspector as it could really be a gem but falls some way short at the moment. For an historic building a stones throw from the cathedral to have no customers in the bar and just one couple in it's restaurant on a saturday night told it's own story.
