“What I Hoped It Would Be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

My first trip to England and my first night in country was at this charming B&B. An easy walk from the train station and just around the corner from the Salisbury Cathedral, the location was excellent. The facility was charming and the entire staff was friendly and helpful. Even Poppy, the feline proprietor, was an excellent host. The room was small, but very comfortable and well appointed. The bathroom (shower) is across the hall, but bathrobes are provided and the bathroom is not shared. The pub was fun and the food was excellent as well. I especially enjoyed the "full English breakfast". What really made this place stand out was the warm welcoming attitude of the manager and staff. I wished I had more time to spend there and if I get back to anywhere near Salisbury I will most definitely stay at the New Inn.

Room Tip: Just a few rooms. Ours was on the street side and just above the Pub. I was concerned about how no...

“Nice, intimate and warm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Me and some friends of mine arrived in Salisbury at night without any reservation and we were very lucky to find this small, intimate pub with few beautiful, characteristic rooms on the first floor.
Two rooms, both beautiful and very cozy.
The only little trouble was the private bathroom was in front of the room and not inside.
We also ate at the restaurant located on the ground floor and the food was very good too.
We were served by Beky, a kind and nice lady who made our meal a real pleasure with her pleasantness and kindness.
Thanks from all of us

“Great pub and room upstairs in a prime location!”

Great pub food. Salmon and mince pie were great. Room was a good size.... comfortable. Good bathroom size too although it is across from the hall as this is a very old inn. The New Inn is in a great location - very close to the cathedral. Parking is around the corner.

“Everything was great.”

Great location, great staff! This is a very unique and quaint place stay. Since this is a very old building, the rooms do not have an attached bathroom. Each room has its own private bathroom immediately across the hall. It sounds weird at first but they’re very nice and robes are included. Parking is available about a block away for small fee. They have wireless access you just need to ask for the login. Very close to the Cathedral, shops, and dining. A very good, full English breakfast was included. Great food and drinks in the pub downstairs. There can be a little noise from the pub downstairs, but it wasn’t too bad.

“Great Inn, Central to Cathedral, Shops and Restaurants”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

This was our 2nd visit to the New Inn; the 1st was 15 years ago. It was wonderful then and it’s even better now. The pub, rooms and restaurant look and feel better than ever. Parking is provided at a nearby Hotel for ten pounds per night. In and out parking is allowed.

Our room was just up a narrow set of stairs, #2, The Admiral’s Room. Baths are across the hall from your room and fluffy robes are provided. The baths are immaculate. Stairs are steep and ceilings are low, just like most olden English pubs and cottages. We were on the street, New Street, but street noise was controlled and refreshing breezes were provided by adjusting the outer and inner windows and drapes. This provided great sleeping.

Dining at the pub/restaurant is recommended. The Steak and Ale pie is a great beef stew covered by Puff pastry, served individually. Fish and chips are excellent also. Breakfast is another whole thing; options include cereal, fruit, eggs cooked to order, bacon, sausages, potatoes and toast, fried or regular. Fit for a king and it will take you to afternoon snack time.

Service was excellent. Everyone is helpful.

I can think of no more central and convenient location in Salisbury. Around the corner are the Cathedral and its close. Pedestrian shopping is one block away. One to four blocks bring you to great places to eat. We obviously like it.

Room Tip: Reserve early for high seasons.
