Salisbury is a lovely town with a mix of old and new and a pretty downtown area. Within walking distance is the Milford Hall Hotel.
Our stay was comfortable with a good bed and pillows though the room was on the small side and had some age. Furniture is low end and not new looking but everything was very, very clean. It took a couple of us several minutes in a very cold room before finding the wall switch that controls the thermostat. I think that should have been clearly marked. Our daughter slept on the sofa bed without the usual complaints of a sofa bed. That was a nice surprise. The hotel wasn't full during our stay so even though at times we could hear our neighbors, we slept very well.
The staff was very pleasant at the front desk and in the restaurant. We enjoyed the restaurant, a decent place to eat when you don't feel like venturing out. If you like chocolate, try the Chocolate Truff (spelling) Pie! Divine! We asked for the recipe and are now making them at home in the U.S. and Spain (part of Valentine's menu today). We returned the following day to see if it was as good as we thought. It was! Another nice selection was the Olive and bread appetizer. Main courses were nice too (minus one fish dish that was more bones that fish, disappointing). Breakfast was plentiful, hot and good though short on good fresh fruit. Not sure why they insisted on putting out inedible watermelon. My guess is that it froze and defrosted but should have been pulled.
Be careful of room selection if you have trouble manuevering stairs. We only had one bathrobe in a room for 3 guests. Loved the bath toiletries and spotlessly clean bathroom. The hotel facility in my opinion is average but what bumped them into VERY GOOD status for me was the customer service, location and value (ok, and the Chocolate Truff Pie!!!). I would happily revist Milford Hall.
