We booked an executive room for a Saturday night away.
The hotel is welcoming and friendly, and we found the room was comfortable and clean. Free wi-fi works well. The bed was nice and firm. Complementary bathrobes were not discovered in the wardrobe until we were checking around when leaving. Why not put them in the bathroom like other hotels?
Breakfast was pretty disastrous. The buffet was empty of everything except beans, black pudding and fried bread. The orange juice had run out, as had the tomato ketchup. No doubt we could have asked or complained - but these things are as obvious to the staff as they are to the diners, so why not just fix them? OK, it was 9.40am, but we were told breakfast was served until 10am, and that should mean a proper breakfast, not whatever bits and pieces are left over.
When we got back to our room, it was just after 10am, and the "smart" key no longer worked the door. I returned to reception, where my key was reprogrammed. Apparently the system is supposed to lock everyone out at 11am - check-out time - but since the clocks went back (3 months ago) it is happening at 10am and they haven't figured it out yet. On the way back to the room I was able to inform other guests who were also struggling with their locks of the rather silly situation.
On the plus side, if you're staying from March 25th onwards, and don't mind being locked out if you happen to be still lingering at 11am, this situation will be happily resolved by the arrival of daylight saving time.
