“Unpretentious hotel with rooms way above usual 2* standard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Location: Excellent location in the heart of Salisbury within 1 minute's walk of the Market Place and 3-5 minutes from the cathedral.

Layout: Downstairs is basically a large pub plus dining room and breakfast room. Guesta are given keys to unlick the hotel area whether going up by lift or stairs. This is to protect the hotel area on Thursday-Saturday nights when the place stays open late and acts as a popular night spot.

Complaints: I noticed that all the compaints of TripAdvisor seemed to be made by people who stayed at weekends and complained about the noise. The hotel is very up front about this, and even states on their confirmations that it is noisy Thursday-Saturday nights, but quiet at other times. If you want a quiet night, don't stay there at weekends.

Rooms: Comfortable, well refurbished and fit for purpose, well above 2* standard. They also offer good vaue for money and give double rooms for single occupancy at single rates when not full.

Service: Charming and firndly throughout.

Breakfast: The only disappointment. Maybe I stayed when a new breakfast cook was starting. I like individually cooked breakfast but this was bizarre, with hideous sausages (what meat are they?...not pork I suspect) and everything else griddled to death, presenting a curiously stripey offering. I don't often leave half my breakfast...I did this time. Now I know not to have cooked next time..

That aside the rest of the stay offered a good experince and I would certainly go back.

“Hen Weekend”

Mother-of-the Groom - thats me. We arrived Friday afternoon and left Sunday morning - ALL the staff were extremely helpful taking our bags to our rooms etc. nothing was too much trouble. My bedroom was immaculate and extremely well decorated with everything I needed. There were very generous supplies of T&C and biscuits in the bedroom. The rooms were incredibly hot on the 3rd floor but there were a plentiful supply of oscillating fans we could use. The bed & breakfast was superb value for money with plenty of choices at breakfast time. All the staff have to be commended for their helpfullness and friendliness. The hotel is ideally situated near to the main market place of Salisbury and the train station - all easy walking distance - its just a shame they dont have any car parking at the hotel, other than that, brilliant - I would highly recommend this hotel, which is very reasonably priced - its exceptionally good value for money. I will stay again. JW

Room Tip: 3rd floor can be hot but hotel provide plenty of oscillating fans.

“Nice room but shower broke and breakfast was a disaster!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

Really nice room, good location then only problem was that the air conditioning just blew warm air around and the windows were limited to how much they would open. In the morning, the shower broke so we didn't shower and then arrived for breakfast within the times, but they cleared the toast machine, cereal, fruit etc whilst we were waiting over 30 minutes for our breakfast. I didn't get what I ordered, neither did a lot of people and my friend got smoked salmon with poached eggs, over cooked and completely tasteless and not on toast....where was the machine again? Bit disappointing to have breakfast close in around us when it wasn't our fault as we did arrive before 10am, which is early for breakfast on a Sunday!

Good value but wouldn't go back. Don't expect too much for breakfast if you do stay here!

Dear Guest

Thank you for your comments about the room being nice. I am sorry the showerhead broke. I do not know why this happened. I can confirm it was fixed immediately as are any faults that we are made aware of, if it is reasonably possible. I was made aware that some guests had problems on this morning with regards breakfast. We have made lots of changes as and when we have received feedback from previous guests to ensure we improve our service and standards. This I hope is evident by some of the great reviews and comments we receive. On the morning in question we had a small group of cyclist staying with us, who we expected to have breakfast, they also invited other people from their group staying at other hotels in the city to have breakfast with them. We had not fully prepared for this and unfortunately we were caught unawares and this did cause problems for some of our hotel guests. It has been reiterated to our team that under no circumstances should the breakfast table be cleared before 10am. My apologies for any inconvenience caused during your stay.

Kind Regards

“Very good, central located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

Very nice hotel near the town center. The welcome was warm ( thank you Suzie for the tip of the " Old Mill" and your help with the luggage ) and friendly. The Family room was very nice and there was space enough for 3 guests.. The bathroom is a bit small but for taking a shower it was ok. We had no noise although we had a night from Thursday to Friday. The beergarden and the pub were great and food there is good.

“Not for a good night's sleep”

Stuffy rooms but cannot open the windows for the noise from the bar down below. The rooms have all you need and are comfortable, but the noise does detract.

Dear Guest

We appreciate your comments about the rooms having everthing you need. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. Our website clearly states we are in the heart of the city and for this reason we offer a quiet relaxed stay during the week and on weekend nights, if the windows are left open you will hear street noise, until approxiamately 2am. We thank you for your feedback and hope future guests find them useful.

Kind Regards
