“good value for money but seen better day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

we only paid £45 so can't complain about the odd bit of shabbyness the hotel is good standard, the food & bar area were great, the spa has definitely seen better days and is in need of an overhaul but the sauna & gym were functional.
staff very friendly - if anything the restaurant staff a bit too much as we were asked 'is everything ok' about every 12 minutes!
given there was a wedding party the same night we were there we didn't hear it at all

Many thanks for your recent review on our hotel and that you found our staff friendly and the food and service excellent. We are constantly improving the hotel product and as such on your next visit I would recommend you book a balcony wing room or executive bedroom as this area id getting our main attention at present.
Kind regards

I stayed at the hotel in January with my partner. Everything was fantastic from the food, to the leisure facilities, to the bedrooms. The staff were extremely helpful, Kelly on reception was particularly friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend!

“Very friendly staff - would recommend it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Stayed at this hotel for one night break at the weekend with family. From the moment we checked in the staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The reception, dining room and bar staff were brilliant.
The hotel was very busy as it had coach parties and a wedding reception but this did not affect the service we got.
Would highly recommend this hotel.

“Negatives outweigh the positives.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

The Mercure Hotel, Leeds Parkway is a very big hotel with plenty of free parking. I stayed in Room 331 on the 25th January 2012.
The room was very nice, excellent bed and en suite facilities.
I chose this hotel and booked on line because it advertised it had a good swimming pool. This unfortunately turned out not to be so true. I am not a fan of screaming kids, and this pool was full of kids, not really for adults, so after entering the pool, I turned around, returned my locker key and left. It is a pity the pool is bigged up so much, it’s really a place where mothers watch their kids screaming and playing.
My next disappointment came when I discovered they charge £19-99 to supply the internet via a cable to your room. When I asked why it was so much, I was told it includes adult TV services. I said I did not need or want any adult or movie channels, but you cannot just pay for the internet, you have to take the package if you want to read your e mails.
Downstairs in the bar things did get a lot better, the bar was tended by Greg, a completely decent chap who was very good company and very interesting to talk to. The restaurant is very nice, I ordered the Sea Bass, and it was very nice. For persons doing a physical job, they will need to eat more than one course, but ladies who do generally eat a lot less than us, will find the main courses enough to eat. Breakfast was very good, it was a buffet style, with plenty of good things to eat. The staff seating and serving at breakfast were all very nice.
I will not be returning to this hotel, there were too many negatives outweighing the positives for me to want to return.

Richard Kaminski.

Thank you for your valued review. We would sincerely like to apologise that you did not feel the stay matched your expectations. We do run childrens swimming lessons which run between 4pm and 6.30pm, taking up 50% of the swimming pool and I apologise that this co-incided with your visit. Regarding the internet, we do offer a £1 internet desk in the lobby area at the front doors of the hotel which would have been a more cost effective alternative. I am very grateful for your kind comments regarding the staff which I shall pass onto Greg and the team. Kind regards, Stewart Woodeson.

“Lovely building but poorly ran”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed for 2 nights this weekend, and I've got to say on first impressions it looked lovely! The read up on net seemed lovely! Arrived & the receptionist is French I think we couldnt understand her much, we were given the keys and told our room was on the lower ground floor! We were booked for 2 nights on the love deal Inc breakfast & 1st evening meal! When I asked the lady how do I make a reservation for dinner that evening she has no idea? And said oh jut turn up from 630pm and they will seat you, I also asked what the free evening meal Inc she said she was unsure? To go and ask in restauarant, which I thought she would know or go and find out! But instead she asked us to do? Which we did but the elderly man we saw at in the bar area had no idea either! So we decided to wait till evening and find out from restaurant staff, we went to our room... And the decor and carpets were lovely on walk to our room, got to our room & cracks on door and a red circle sticker covering Remada Jarvis (which is what the hotel was called) was stuck on door plus bits outside door where paint had fallen off hadn't been hoovered so first impressions before going into the room wasn't very pleasing! Entered room and it was very basic... Nothing special! Bed moves when u sit on it! The chair in there was broken, mold around bath, shower very slow and not very powerful! Anyway decided to go swimming, didn't bring our own towels as assumed they supplied them, rang up to reception to be told she thinks that the leisure staff supply towels, they don't so we took our ones from room! Got to swimming pool and there was a children's swimming lesson going on? Water was cold! So thought we would get into the jaquzzi expecting it to be hot.... It was freezing!! Spent 15mins there and decided to leave swimming! Went back to room with our towels used for swimming! Had a shower, rang up to reception to ask for more towels as we needed them for the morning! They were prompt in bringing them! Evening meal - went up to restaurant was seated! Another lovely man but foreign and when we told him we were on the inc dinner he wasn't sure what we meant? Gave us a menu we saw in small print ourselves that it was £22 pp which was ok but considering the starters are £7 each and meals £15-£20 each didn't leave much to play with... Anyway we ordered! And I ordered a curry my husband ordered lamb! Starter was lovely, main well hubby's lamb was still bleeding... So I complained and got it to be cooked properly! Then we were handed the bill and we said we were on Inc again to the man, he was unsure what we were saying so had to get the manager? Anyway all got sorted! But seems nobody knows what's going on? Poor show! Went back to the room and went to bed.... Most umcomfy bed ever slept in!! Horrible nights sleep .. Got woke up at 715am to doors bangin and loud voices.... Later found out when complained it was Chinese tourists!!! Breakfast was nice, elderly waiter was lovely! Couldn't do enough!!! All in all we were very disappointed!! Left early the last morning after a lovely breakfast.

Thank you very much for review following your stay. I have taken your comments on board, re-training the member of staff concerned and re-communicating the offer you booked to the entire staff once again. I apologise that your bedrooms did not match your expectations and on your next visit I would recommend a balcony room with views over the rear landscaped gardens which have recently been refurbished. I apologise that you felt the water in the swimming pol was cold - the pool temperature is recorded daily at 29 degrees, the same as any municipal swimming pool - because the environment needs to be 2 degrees warmer than the water to avoid humidity issues, this may be why the pool felt cold. Regarding dinner, my understanding is that the lamb with dinner was cooked pink and I apologise that this was not to your taste. Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for not meeting your expectations but I hope that we can be of service again in the future when you remember us for all the right reasons.
