“A huge disspointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My wife and I stayed at the MET 11th February 2012. We entered the hotel to find a very modern quality Lobby. Upon checkin at the desk the staff member dealing with us smirked as he told us we were in room 605.
When we arrived on the 6th floor there was a smell that you would expect to find in an old seaside bed and breakfast.
The room was very outdated. In an old hotel such as this it can be expected that there would be some original features but this was too old. My wife immediately pointed out the mould and dead flies on the flase bathroom roof (photo supplied) The net curtains were very dirty and the window frames were in a state. (photo supplied)
In an attempt to get on with it we stayed in the room. The heat in the room was unbearable the whole night. The heating in the room was not turned on but being in what appears to be the loft space its very hot. My wife did not sleep for most of the night, sitting in a chair next to the sash window that only opens 2 inches wide. The room expierience was the worst my wife and I have ever suffered and this room makes a mockery of the 4star hotel rating.
In the morning we were eager to leave the room. We did enjoy a superb breakfast in the modern ground floor of the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpfull. The food was the best I have expierienced in a hotel. It is a huge shame that the rest of the expierience was so bad as I believe there are actually some nice rooms as the leaflets picture..
Customers need to be warned prior to being allocated the substandard rooms in the loft.

Room Tip: Not room 605

“Fantastic experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

My partner and I stayed at the hotel last night for our first night away since having our baby. With money being tight I couldn't afford to upgrade to an executive room but the hotel were lovely and ensured our experience was special by allocating us a gorgeous big double room with lovely fluffy robes, bottled water and chocolate. The room and bathroom were lovely and clean with everything we needed. Check in and check out were smooth and quick with no issues. We ordered a pizza after returning from our night out and it was delivered quickly and very tasty. We went for breakfast at 8.15 and te food was lovely and hot, well cooked with quality produce. The waiting staff were efficient and polite and the overall breakfast experience was great.

My partner and I both agreed we would definitely stay again and I'm really happy the night was as perfect for us as I hoped.

“We liked this hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My husband and I had booked to come to Opera North's production of "Norma" and were looking for a budget hotel in Leeds. The Metropole was far better than a budget hotel but we were pleasantly surprised by the price (£109 for the two of us for two nights with full English breakfast, booked through Superbreak). When we arrived we were assigned a double room, even though we had ordered a twin room. We liked the room so didn't bother to complain. (I'm sure they would have changed it if we had complained). The basin was blocked but we mentioned this on our way out the first afternoon and it had been fixed by the time we returned to the hotel in the evening.
Certainly no problem with the heating. We were able to change the radiator settings and never felt cold, even though it snowed heavily during our stay. We had to wait a little while for hot water to reach the basin tap but it arrived eventually. The room was generally very quiet. Certainly no external noise, although there were a few creaks and thuds from the floor above (we were on the second floor). Can't see how the hotel can change that so suggest you bring ear plugs, just in case this is a problem...
My husband is on a gluten-free diet and one of the reasons we picked the Metropole is that we had read that gluten-free bread is available at breakfast if you notify the hotel in advance. We did this and my husband was delighted to be presented with several slices of gluten-free toast each morning. Breakfast was very good. The tiny croissants are a perfectly plain alternative to the toast (I had assumed they had fillings, but this is not the case)
We were pleasantly surprised to find that there was no piped music at breakfast on our first morning. However, it was there on our second morning. And it was in the reception area on both mornings. Please note, Hotel Metropole, that more people dislike musak than like it, and you are wasting money if you are having to pay a licence to play this stuff!
Would we stay at the Metropole again? Yes, definitely. We liked Leeds for the shops, the Art Gallery, the opera and, looking at the nice coloured tourist guide left in the hotel room drawer, there would be lots of summer attractions, too. We will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room and you will probably be given one at the back

I am happy to have read such positive comments about the hotel and pleased your husband was provided with his gluten free bread. It’s the small touches like this which we push for that makes your stay that little bit more special.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the Met Hotel in the near future.

“The ground floor does not set the standard for the rest of the hotel!!”

Executive room. Peeling wall paper, damp, blocked sink, fuzzy tv and the smallest double bed ever! Plus side service was great and nothing too much trouble

“Room OK but let down by shower and lack of heating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed here few times and not a bad place. Room was nice, bed comfortable but let down by the fact it was very cold. Sure it was cold outside but neither of radiators would work (presume set centrally) so ended up wrapping up in two duvets just to keep warm. Also let down by the shower which was more of a trickle !! Service always very pleasant but getting to the point where the hotels needs money spent on it.
