“worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

The New Beehive for me is a bit of an enigma, I have never stayed in the accommodation however I have frequented the bar on a few occasions. I can only describe the bar as quirky, a trip back in time & what I imagine a Victorian gin palace to be like. The ales have always been spot on every time I have visited along with some of the stronger beers & ciders.

I am sure it has its locals but every time I have been in there has been a good cross section of people & all seemed to be friendly enough, the bar staff all were helpful & chatty & quite knowledgeable about the beers & ales they were serving which for me is a major plus.

The New Beehive Inn is certainly not in one of the best areas of Bradford but certainly makes up for it with its friendly atmosphere once you have been served & found your spot.

Its about a 10/15 minute walk to the bus & train stations however a few taxi companies serve the Inn regularly.

“Would not recommend the rooms, but the bar is nice.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

Cons: shower, bed, breakfast, security, the advertised wifi does not work in the rooms. Pros: Quiet, nice bar, cheap. The shower was appalling. The water did not drain, so you would showering in several inches of water. The culprit was what looked like several months collection of hair in the drain. It was disgusting. The bed was broken so tipped inward and downward... the management must have been aware of the broken bed because it was "fixed" using pillows beneath the mattress. Not a comfortable sleep, but surprisingly the noises from the bar downstairs (a band was playing) could not be heard in our room. The windows in the room did not open, which made for a very stuffy, mouldy-smelling atmosphere. The doors were thin, and the old-fashioned locks left an insecure feeling-- especially because the neighbourhood is dodgy and the rooms are not in secure access. On the plus side, the bar downstairs is really nice. A lot of personal touches went into the bar, which was nice to see.... unique, to bradford especially. The breakfast was horrible. Definitely not worth the money. I don't know how you can call warmed bread toast... the sausages did not taste nice either. On the plus side, the service was fairly attentive. Overall, I wouldn't stay at the Beehive Inn again. The cheap prices is not a good enough incentive to overcome its negative aspects. It just felt dirty and seedy, with faint glimmers of a formerly nice inn.

“Only drank in bar, great experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011 via mobile

If you stumbled upon this place without realising what it is then you might be disappointed. It is a working Edwardian pub so you don't get all mod cons and it looks superficially down at heel- but that is its whole charm. Good beer, friendly staff, unique experience.
(trip advisor would only allow me to post if I filled in date of stay and quality of rooms- as I've said I only drank in the bar.)

“Nice old fashioned B&B / Pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

We booked a room for 3 and have been at the Inn for 7 nights. We all liked the great athmosphere of this old British pub. The people where very kind and helpful. From time to time there was live music in the pub where just some blokes came around and played their instruments and sang. Very nice! Accomodation wise the beds where a bit too soft and the facilities just old - but the price is low as well.... It was neither noisy nor quiet. The breakfast was very good especially if you like "The Lot". We had to order a day in advance and then they prepare what you like: Bacon/ eggs/ sausages/ tomatoes/ mushrooms/ beans /toast .... Together with cereals, milk, juice, tea or coffee.

“Light and dark on Westgate”

I try to seek out unusual and interesting hotels to stay, and this one certainly meets those criteria. A big old Edwardian inn, rambling and a bit well-worn, but real gaslight in the bars makes for a unique feel, smell and look. Great choice of real ales, lovely untouched original bar, very nice breakfast, in fact the young lady who does the breakfast is a credit to the Beehive..and exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff when I checked in too. Rooms have names not numbers, and I was in Salts...that's Titus Salt, ex-mayor of bradford, founder of Saltaire...I went out for a meal and found a brilliant curry/snack bar nearby, samosas, veg masala, rice and a soft drink, all for £4.50. Mind, this is a rather seamy part of town, so I'd leave my phone and wallet in the room! Lumb Lane nearby has it's own seamy reputation...So, with a total for B&B of £44, the smashing staff, and a unique experience of Edwardian interiors, I'll forgive the dodgy shower door, the two fire alarms ( false) in the night, the bizarre old TV that came on at maximum volume every time and the somewhat bizarre cast of characters...all friendly...that were there (including one, drunk, collapsed, halfway up the stairs and fairly incoherent)...ah well, such is the rich life of the traveller. Well worth a visit,
